Charlie,

Some software players will play tracks in a gap less manner and other players will present a noticeable gap between tracks.

I am using MusicBee as my player primarily because it plays tracks in a gap less manner.

MusicBee is a free download from their website.

Best,

Art

Thanks, Art. I will check it out.

I get it that you use a laptop or other portable to stream the music. But I sit about 7 feet away from my electronics, so do you just run a long USB cable? Or do you have some kind of wireless link?

I have definitely been late to this party, that's for sure. The Oppo 105 now has the ability to stream Tidal, so I could do that (haven't yet). But I do need a more flexible arrangement with my digital files.

I see the need for more stuff coming...

Charlie,

I have a dedicated laptop sitting in the rack with my amplifier and DAC. The laptop has a 3 TB external HD connected via USB. All of my music is stored on the HD. The laptop is running Windows 10 Professional.

I also sit about 7 feet away from the music laptop. I have a second laptop at my Preferred Listening Position (PLP). This laptop is running Windows 10 Home. I use Windows Remote Desktop to control the music laptop from my PLP laptop. With Remote Desktop, I can access MusicBee on my Music Laptop and select which music files to play.

I also have all of my music files stored on my PLP laptop, which is also my main laptop for family business, emails, etc. (I am typing this response on this laptop). When we travel, I have a portable 2.1 sound system which accompanies us, along with this laptop. The music laptop stays put.

I use Centurylink's DSL service for my internet. My top download speed is about 5 Meg. My home network supports the interface between the two laptops. I also have two other laptops connected to this network, both running Windows 10 Home (my wife's laptop and a laptop in the garage which also has all of my music files stored on a separate 1 TB HD.) I have a separate 2.0 sound system in my garage for when I am working out there.

Best,

Art

Art, thanks for the information. I understand the setup, and I like the way you are wireless from your listening position. I've got a single tower computer in my office, which is well away from my listening room. I do need to get some more hardware!

The only thing I have you beat at is my internet connection. I'm on Charter, getting around 60 Mb. Downloads are really fast. You must be living out and beyond to be on DSL.

Thanks again,

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Actually, we live right in the middle of town. Our street is wired for Charter. I am only interested in internet service and, thus far, Charter wants too much for their service, when compared to CenturyLink DSL. I don't need the extra speed (it would be nice, but not necessary).

Sooner or later, our power company will string fiber down our street -- then, we'll see about options.

Best,

Art

So for you Jazz lovers out there, a couple of cuts from this album came already pre-loaded on my Cowon Plenue M2 DAP, probably from the Korean version that is on sale on Amazon. Or not.
The one on my player is 24/48 and sounds excellent. Piano, guitar and drums. Oh and awesome bass. Maybe more.
This is said to be Jack Lee and Bob James.
This is NOT my kind of music, though I could listen to this much more than MOST Jazz.
For some of you, like Bro Anthem and Bro T. I would think you would want you some of this.
Check it out,
Happy listening,
God Bless,
Wayne
