Not sure really where to start this thread. Since I already have in ceiling speakers with tweeters that can be rotated for direction, the newly released Atmos-Enabled Speaker Modules coming to market also interests me. While my current receiver isn't Atmos enabled, who knows if I'll upgrade in the future.

I don't know how everyone else feels about this, or if Sandy has plans to release their own, but I wouldn't like to buy one that I cannot fit on top of my Tritons seamlessly!

I know this topic is kinda out there, but perhaps others have been thinking along the same lines, so I thought I'd start this thread. :silly:

Discussed elsewhere in this forum and on the GoldenEar website.

Bottom line - if you want to ruin the sound of your Tritons, go ahead and put speakers on top of them. Add to that the fact that we don't agree with the Atmos-enabled placement, or the effectiveness of this dumbed-down application of the Atmos concept. And on top of that, the "bounce off the ceiling" concept only works in a very limited set of circumstances, as Dolby now admits and outlines in their Atmos information guides.

We think Atmos is absolutely great and Sandy and his team are working on alternatives to the in-ceiling applications we have available now (and that clearly give the best results). We'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks Moderator!

That's ultimately what I wanted to hear. Sorry I missed the discussions elsewhere, but good to know Sandy and team is working on some alternatives as well!

I'm looking to go the ceiling route, but others folks who have bounced speakers off the fronts and rears prefer that over the dedicated speaker route. For me, if would come down to feasibility, and since I have a low ceiling and it's drywall, I'm going to cut holes and put the speakers in. Seems like the better approach, but future surround sound formats could make this a sitting duck in the future (DTS-X and other comparables don't require ceiling speakers.

Haven't seen anyone prefer the bounce off the ceiling option. DTS-X speaker placements are completely compatible with Atmos placements. Low ceiling can be a problem with the closer proximity of the overhead speakers.

It was only something I heard Scott Wilkinson (editor of AVS Forum and host of the Home Theater Geeks podcast) mention on one of his podcasts. After doing a bit of research, I couldn't find where this was mentioned. In fact, it seems that most people are saying the direct speaker option is better. And I do remember Scott Wilkinson saying that of all the demos he's heard, one of the best at a show was a Goldenear system. Come to think of it, that podcast may have been the one that I first heard of GE...
