Looking for advice on surround/atmos speakers and layout for a 12x18 theater room with two rows of seating.
Considering four MPXs for dual L & R surrounds next to each row and another one for a single back channel due to short length of that wall. Three sets of atmos using 650s, although until I upgrade my receiver I can only drive four of them for now. See attachment for my first pass at a proposed layout. Any concerns or suggestions? Thanks!

Hi, telliott, and welcome!

First, you can't go wrong with GEt speakers! I assume you have a sub or full range fronts for bass support?

Running two sets of surround speakers, one set for each row, off one lead from your receiver/amp would present pretty darn low impedance levels for your amp whatever it is (is that how you would wire it?), maybe too much of a draw. Just guessing, would take a pretty hefty amp to do that at higher SL's, unless you have two surround outs in your receiver/amp.

I have four height channels and love them. Never heard six, must be even better.

What are your fronts and center going to be? I'd be looking for bass heft somewhere in this set up.

My impressions from listening to lots of Atmos/height feeds, is that height ,surround, and bass balance are critical. Not sure what a single rear surround speaker would do to add to that.

Good luck and happy listening!

It looks good except I wonder what one channel you'll connect to the single speaker in the center behind you.

You might consider the two pairs of MPX to be side surround (1 pr) and back surround (1 pr) and forego that single speaker behind you.

You might also consider two SuperSub X instead of one SuperSub XXL so you can play with placement for best and most even bass. You could also use two SuperSub XXLs for this... :-)

I really like Moderator Dude's suggestion of running the MPX's as one set of side surrounds, and one as rear surrounds!!!! Takes any load off the amp of four speakers on two channels, and you can position the side surrounds to play to both rows of seating.

And SuperSubs add a LOT to the bass piece, especially if you don't have major bass contribution from front powered Tritons.

Ha!
Just enlarged your attachment enough to read the fine print.... you have a SuperSub XXL in your proposal. Great choice, though again I agree with Moderator Dude that two sub s are better than one. Two X's would be even better, two XXL's, well.... I have two T Ref's with LFE feeds, about equivalent to two SuperSub XXL's, and for movies, the effect is room shaking.

Thanks Rick, I appreciate your feedback and advice. Will definitely look at adding those two 2 subs to the plan. Noted on the impedance concerns, will be sure to check its ok with my receiver.
