I too would think that white speakers would be hard to keep clean.
I too had beige Maggies, then some Apogee Stages. Loved that open sound and am addicted to it, can NOT stand boxy, wooden box speaker coloration. One of many reasons why I love the sound of our GEt speakers. They have a similar openness to me, but pack a much better bass punch, much fuller and richer sounding.
And I find them much easier to place in the room for a great sound.
Just sayin' agree with you on many counts.
Glad you are here with us Rackon.

Wayne

Wayne, Rick and all, thank you. Very glad to be here.

Rick, wish you at had a pair of Aons up in NH to keep you company...a Bose Wave radio...ouch.

Wayne, I'm totally with you about loving that open, unboxy sound. I once lusted after a friend's Apogee Divas. They were pretty darned special - but they were pretty darned terrifying to drive and maintain. I think Apoge produced some of the best sounding speakers ever made. There was a used pair of Duettas at a local dealer this winter and I was tempted for about 90 seconds - the spousal unit said "don't even power them up - I don't want to hear. I might like 'em." LOL

I loved my Alon dipoles - they were very open, with great bass & sound staging, not unlike the GET house sound, but they were considerably more demanding: they had to be tri-wired, plus they wanted a bare minimum of 200w per channel of high current, high quality amp. Plus, they listed for around $5k circa 2000. The GETs tick the same boxes for me as the Alons and Maggies, but with much better bass than the Maggies, easier to drive than either - and as you say, easier to position.

Those CM10s in white satin were pretty though.

Rackon,

Thanks for thinking of me with a Bose Wave here as a music source. When neither a Bose Wave, nor a Harmon Kardon sound bar nor a Bose Soundlink or a Jawbone quells the music thirst, I plug in my headphones and come closer.

Nothing beats the GEt house sound. Maybe a pair of Aons as you said to tide me over???

Hey Bro Rick,
I totally agree with Rackon about the Aon 3s.
Have you had a chance to hear them?
They were the first GEt speakers I got to audition, I heard them on stands playing from a Unison "Simply Italy" small tube amp. OK, with an average CD player, even that is not an el cheapo setup. Nor did it sound like it, it was HEAVENLY!!!!!
I knew I needed/wanted more bass, so I did not buy them on the spot. But man oh man, I wanted a setup just like that for my bedroom!!!! I am drooling right now thinking of how the music sounded.

You might need a GREAT florist for this one.
But, you have music files, a player of some sort that you use for listening with headphones. So that part is done.
And honestly, you don't have to have speaker stands if you have a good shelf and if you are not going for a totally awesome audiophile sound.
AND as much as I like that little darn amp and the warm glow of tubes of a cool evening, a smallish, sweet class D amp at a modest price will make the Aons sing, it is them speakers that are the sweetest part of the sound.
Give that Wave away to someone for a baby's room.
OK, so I am just dreaming for you. Audio dreaming, on such a winter's day.
God Bless,
Wayne

There are even a pair of used Aon 3s for sale on the forum here.
Hint Hint.
You could even bring up the Marantz to power them in the summer house, THEN you would have the perfect alibi to buy a new processor/amp for your Golden system at home!!!!
Your adopted son trying to help out here!!!!

Hey Wayne

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes, I've heard the Aons. Amazing speakers. I listened to another brand, at twice the price right after. The Aons were head and shoulders better.

What to do to upgrade listening options here.... still looking at amp and T Ref upgrades when we get back to TX. Can't overuse the florist thing.

Decisions, decisions.
