I am giving thought to buying a 7x200 Monolith amp to drive the bed layer of my system, and letting the Marantz SR7010 that I have had for about five years, only drive my four overhead speakers (previously driving all speakers.). I was just checking to see if that is too powerful an amp for the Golden Ear MPX speakers given they are rated at 200 watts on the back of the speakers, or on the website at 250 watts.

thoughts?

Would I be better off getting a less powerful amp for the surround channels, like the 11 channel which then only delivers 100 wpc to the surrounds?

Hi Kamate, First, the Invisa MPXs are rated at handling 250 watts. Next, in your application, as long as your processor is set to small speakers (with a crossover frequency of 80hz - 100hz), I would not have any issues or concerns with using a 200 watt per channel amplifier with these Invisa MPX in-wall/in-ceiling speakers. Happy Listening!
