This is a speculative post about what might be, specifically aimed at a larger passive offering between the Triton 5 and powered 3. Its inspired from a time when I asked whether GE would trickle-down technology from the newer speakers to the then, older triton 2/3's. At that time, the answer was no - but with time the 2+/3+ were released. To my question:

I have, and very much enjoy a pair of triton sevens in a cozy living room area. They are paired to SuperSat 50's, 50c, and 3's - and two horizontally opposed sealed subwoofers. This makes for thrilling home-theater as well as great 2-channel (+sub) listening. When the triton fives came out, I briefly considered the upgrade - but spec-wise, it didn't make sense. What would make sense to me, is a larger passive speaker offering... a triton four if you will. I'm looking for specs similar to the threes - but from a passive model. (I really don't want to wire for powered models, and with dual subs in the ecosystem - I'm fine with the extremely low end)

Thoughts on a larger, passive speaker offering from GET?
Triton Two front L/R
SuperSat 50c center
Triton Seven surround L/R
SuperSat 50 surround rear L/R
AVR Arcam AVR-21
Amp Marantz mm7025
Velodyne optimum 10” sealed, back left corner
SuperSub X front-right corner

Timecop,
Be careful what you wish for!!!!
Ha ha
Seems that Sandy does pull some tricks outta his hat that were unexpected. So you may be onto something here.
Glad you are enjoying the setup you have. I have the T 7s in a simple 2 ch setup, wishing they had a sub, sounds like you have it the way you want it, or close.
Happy listening,
God bless,
Wayne

Thanks for the post on this. Although there is nothing in the pipeline for a larger passive tower, that only means there won't be one in the next 24 months. Beyond that, who knows...

Regarding the Triton Five vs the Triton Seven, the sonic differences are not insignificant, thanks to the balanced crossover, more sophisticated cabinet, and new-technology mid/bass drivers. They have more/better bass too, but that's not as big an issue in a with-powered-sub setup.

This past weekend I listened to some triton fives compared to sevens. While different, there wasn't enough of a visceral difference to justify the upgrade for me. At this point, I'd probably even skip the threes and go directly to triton twos if I were upgrading. With such a modest sized living room (18x22 ft) I don't think it makes sense.

Thanks Timecop, I agree with your assessment, skip the passive speakers, and the T 3s, go straight for the Twos or Two+ and do not pass GO.
The difference in quality and power is huge!!!!! And your room is easily large enough for the T 2s. Have you auditioned them? They are GREAT!!!!
Pls tell us what you decide?
God Bless,
Wayne

I'm not a speaker designer but I do play one on the internet. I think one of the challenges is the amount of power needed to drive a practically larger passive Triton. You'd want to start looking at more than 3 drivers. So instead of an MTM you might look at an MTMW or MTMWW. But in the powered line Sandy has the luxury of 1k watt amps and custom DSP to tune that low end. You lose that with a passive design.

I'm not saying it can't be done. Just challenging.
