I don't know if it's THAT much of a challenge - Sandy & team have squeezed 26Hz out of the fives. I'd imagine it's more about market demand. Not enough people interested in passive offerings.

It is safe to say that Sandy and his engineering team feel that the best way* to make a large, full-range speaker is with a self-powered bass section.

*If your goals are to be cost effective, maximize bass output and extension and achieve highest efficiency
