I have the triton twos and they are about a foot off the wall.

Is that enough?

I could bring them further out but the wife isn't too happy about that idea.

If it will make a dramatic difference I will wear her down.

For the sake of domestic tranquility, yes, absolutely!

As you move them further away from the wall you will get small improvements in soundstage size and depth. Bass will also lessen due to boundary effects (which are easily adjusted for with the bass level control on the Tritons). After a couple feet away, any changes are pretty much done.
