I have read in a number of reviews where the Aon 2 is recommended as the ultimate standmount-Aon 3 is only mentioned for larger rooms/better bass. What makes the Aon 2 a better performer and why?

Some say the Aon 3's don't image quite as well as the 2's. The Aon 2's ( to some) offers superior dispersion and therefore seems to have an easier time helping the sound break free from the box. The 3' do have a slightly better bass extension.

I've owned the Aon 3's for about a year and I can say without hesitation that they are phenomenal sounding speakers.

Hi Wweiss,
I do not own any Aon speakers, but have auditioned them several times. I bought the Triton 2s and Triton 3s. I have to have bass.
So take this with a grain of salt, but to me there is no doubt the Aon 3s are better than the 2s. Hands down.
I "think" what reviewers are going on about with the 2s is the big awesome sound in a small size and relatively cheap purchase price.
I mean, if the 2s did not exist, then all the raves would be about the 3s. They sound much better, mostly because they can play lower.
The WOW factor just goes up at the 2s size and price.
IMHO go with the Aon 3s if you are thinking of going without a sub, the Aon 2s if you have a sub to take care of the low freqs.
(I would use a sub with the 3s as well).
BEST overall speaker: Triton 1, er, well not yet, I mean, Triton 2, or maybe Triton 3, or maybe Triton 7, well wait a minute Aon 3 or maybe Aon 2 after all.
Heck, they are all great, get the most speaker, the best speaker you can afford. There is a VERY good reason for the increased cost of these speakers, you get what you pay for.
But enjoy whatever you get.
God Bless,
Wayne

Anthem and Wayne thank you for your quick response. You two seem to be the "wise men" of this Forum-keep up the good work!

Wayne, your response makes me feel better because I purchased a pair of Aon 3's two months ago and was thinking I made the wrong decision. :(

I'm using them as mains with a sub in a medium size den. Very pleased but maybe I should have bought the
Triton 7's!

Hi Wweiss,
Thanks for the kind words, that was gracious of you.
You have to love the Aon 3s, they are a wonderful speaker and with your sub they should really sound great! You do have them on stands don't you? That HVFR tweeter at around ear height?
One of the easiest things in Audiofool (I am including myself in this category BIG time) is to read reviews and second guess yourself.
Please don't.
Read the reviews, but turn on some tunes and immediately you will know why you chose the 3s.
And IF you ever get tired of them, just send them over to me!!!! I asked Bro Anthem to do the same and he is still hanging on to his, not sharing at all.
I would take them in a heartbeat.
Enjoy, and God Bless,
Wayne

Bro. Wayne makes a valid point. I don't believe there's a person out there that hasn't second guessed their audio/video decisions. We rely to heavily on what others say...I include myself.

I do realize that there are times when we have to make choices/decisions based on reviews from others because the products we wish to audition aren't within reasonable travel distances.

If 100 people walked into a GoldenEar retailer and were asked to make a purchase/decision based solely on sound, not all will walk out with the same purchase. We all hear things differently then the next guy...right bro. Wayne?

wweiss...you've made a great speaker decision...like Wayne says "turn on some tunes and immediately you'll know why you chose the 3's".

Wayne I'll let you borrow my 3's for a month... I want your Vincent Mono's for a month...got a deal? ;)
