Hello, I am new to the forums here and I was wondering what the recommended speaker stand height was for the Aon 2? I just purchased 5 of them along with a forcefield 4 sub for a 5.1 surround system. I will be using the system for a lot of music listening and also watching movies a couple times a week. I was doing research on this topic and was reading a lot of recommendations to have the tweeter at ear level? When I measure for myself that would be approx 46" height. This would mean that I would need about 36" stands to put the tweeter at ear level as I measure these tweeters to be about 8" up from the base of the speaker. I was wondering if this sounds like I am on the right track or not? I found some stands that I really like that are 34" tall but none that I am crazy about that are 36" tall (don't know how much this 2" difference would matter?) I have dogs that like to play and I need something really solid that they won't be able to knock over as I don't want to send my brand new speakers tumbling! Thanks for any input/advice in advance. How far will you be seated from the speakers. I have the Aon 3's on 26 in. stands, seating is 10 ft. Imaging and overall sound is perfect at this height. The Aon 2 is 2 inches shorter than the Aon 3 , I would experiment with stand heights of 26-30 inches.

When it comes to quality audio in a home there's always concessions to be made to keep your home in working order. It sounds like you are definitely on the right track and I don't think the extra 2 inches is worth how unsatisfied you may be with the safety and aesthetics of the 36" tall stands. Think about it this way. Even if those 2 extra inches adds an extra say 5% (whatever that means) to the accuracy of the sound; how much will that really matter if, while you are trying to get immersed and lost in your music, you are constantly distracted by your dogs potentially bumping into the stands? Those distractions will be more detrimental to your enjoyment of your system than those finer details.

That said, you are definitely on the right track as far as your front and center speakers are positioned. For your rear's however, it's generally agreed upon that keeping them higher to give them a sense of spaciousness is the preferred arrangement; although again, go with what works for your house.

I have my rears on speaker stands at ear level and it still sounds fantastic so you'll be happy either way.

Oh, and make sure that your front speakers are far enough from the back/side wall (like a foot if you can), are at least as wide apart as you are from the middle of them, and toed in (turned to face you).

Due to room design (just sold house so in a rental now), along with trying to keep the wife somewhat happy I was going to have the rear surrounds fairly close to the rear of the sectional sofa so I am guessing they will be about 4-6' from the listener depending on where they are sitting. I am just a bit worried about the shorter stands as that will definitely put the tweeter below ear level. The research I have done so far seems to recommend it to be at or slightly above ear level? I am trying to do the best I can to maximize the sound quality as these are the best speakers that I have ever owned. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated!

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I agree with you that worrying about the dogs knocking them over would ruin the extra bit of sound quality (if I could even hear the difference in this case)? There are some all metal stand options that are 36" that I was looking at as well that I could fill with sand and I wouldn't have a problem with them getting knocked over. I just prefer the aesthetics and quality of the 34" stands that I found a bit more. Not sure if it is worth sacrificing the 2" of extra height for a stand that just merely looks better to the eye? Also, forgive me as I am a newbie here but I didn't really understand your last paragraph for certain? I was going to have the front speakers approx 2' out on each side of the TV and about 2' or so from the rear wall. I wasn't aware about toeing them in and I appreciate this advice as well. We typically use 30" tall stands. When using as surround, higher is generally better. Enjoy!
