This is all we are after with the ForceField sub line, just best overall performance for the $$. For now, the best-regardless-of-price and price-no-object subs are just not part of our GoldenEar product philosophy ("We make high-end affordable"). If you can spend at least 50% more, there are probably some subs that will outperform the ForceField models, and certainly subs with more features. Generally, most of these features are duplications of the features/functionality found on today's modern receivers/processors.

Just as an aside to the money thing, if money is not the issue, there is a pretty strong argument that two subs will always perform better in a room than a single sub. Which begs the question, would two ForceField 5's be a better choice than a single $2000-ish other sub?

Prove GoldenEar wrong. Don't depend on what others say about a particular product. Buy both subs (one you can return) preform your own tests and make a decision based on that. Why is it we always what to rely on what others say/do? Preform your own tests...prove GoldenEar wrong.

In reply to the moderator:I don't know of any high end receiver that has a sub mute function. Again the ability to A/B the Triton 2's with sub engaged vs. mute shows the huge difference when the sub is engaged!
So much music-so little time!

A little experiment tonight.

I randomly picked 10 or so dealers from the dealer locator on this website. I sent them this email:

I need help picking a subwoofer. I am typically super busy and it will be hard for me to stop in your showroom to listen so I was hoping you could recommend a couple or 3 subwoofers and tell me a little about them. If you have something that interests me I will come take a look.

Budget: $800-$1200
Usage: 70-80% TV/movie, 20-30% music
Room: Large TV area 18'x16' but open to bar/game area that is 30'x 10', ceilings are 9'-10'.

Would like to keep it fairly compact and one sub if possible.

The subwoofer will be running with Noble Fidelity in-wall 2way 8" LCR's and in ceiling 6.5" rears (5.1) and run buy an Onkyo TX-NR818.

I look forward to your feedback.

Thank you,
Steve
