SRQKid,

Welcome to the forum! You have great taste in speakers, or at least we all think so around here. With that large a space, the T1s would be fantastic but the upcoming T2+s may be another great option is well. If they can nearly capture the same level of transparency as the T1s, they will be a bargain at $1,500 less per pair. Regarding size, I believe we've decided speakers can never be too big but they can be too small. There are probably some spouses out there that would not agree... You may want to hold off on purchasing a sub until you get your Triton towers installed to see if you need any additional bass. The T1s are monsters!

Regarding surrounds, it really depends on your setup. If you want a stealthy setup that blends into your room, the Invisa series offers a lot of options. Aons are also great. GET uses very similar drivers across it's product lines so they all sound very similar. I chose the Aon 3s and have never regretted the decision. They sound fantastic! Your best bet would be to audition as many options as you can and decide on whatever works best for you. Good luck and happy hunting!

Cheers,

T Cobe

Hi, SRQKid

Welcome! Good questions.

My $.02 worth: Re the fronts, the general consensus is to get the best speakers you can afford. T1's are not "too big" for your or any room. Their actual footprint isn't much bigger than a T2's, and their output can be completely controlled between the volume controls on the source (receiver or whatever), and the bass controls on the T1's themselves. They won't overpower your room, just provide great sound at any level you desire. If your preference is the T1's, I'd think that would be a great choice.

Re surrounds, either the HTR 7000's or the Aon's would be excellent choices. They have similar drivers. Which would be the easiest/best to install and positions where you want them? Either choice would do a fantastic job and blend in perfectly with your fronts.

Good luck. You're certainly looking at quality speakers!

Gentleman,
Thank you both for putting my nerves at ease. I have decided to go ahead and order a pair of T1’s, Invisa MPX for my surrounds (back wall) and I may even pull the trigger and go with (4) HTR 7000’s for Atmos height speakers. I know what you are all thinking……but what about the center channel? Well, I could use your wisdom on this decision as well. Originally I was going to go with the SC XL because the 35’’ XXL is a monster of a center channel. While I do have room for it, I again thought it could be overkill. Besides, there is a $500 difference between the two. I will be anxiously awaiting your thoughts on this and thanks again for all your help.

The XXL might be wide, but it's still not too tall. Even the biggest GE speakers are still quite slim looking, and unless it won't fit, the XXL would be the best way to compliment the T1s.
7.1 today, moving to 7.1.4 tomorrow
(2) Triton Two - front mains
(1) Sat 60C - center
(2) Sat 50s - sides
(2) Sat 50s - rear

Congratulations, SRQKid. You've chosen quality speakers!

Re the center channel options you're considering, both the SCXXL and the SCXL are outstanding speakers. You expressed a concern whether the XXL could be overkill. Not in any "too much of something I'd never use" sense. The XXL has the new balanced crossovers (plus 2 additional drivers in separate chambers with separate passive radiators), and since the XXL and the T1's have the same crossover technologies, they share the same extraordinary clarity of sound on everything, including dialog. I don't think the primary reason behind GEt adding the XXL to the Supercenter line up was to have a speaker that could play louder (though it probably can), but to further refine an already refined speaker line up. Just as T2+'s and T3+'s are designed to further refine those tower speakers.

It's your ears and what pleases YOU that count here. Any chance you can audition both speakers? Neither is "underkill" or "overkill", sound quality or sound volume wise. Either would fit in with your current speaker choices and give you a cohesive, great sound field. Again, it depends on your budget also. Plenty of T1 owners have the XL, and plenty have the XXL. I have the XXL now, and agree with murphyslaw1978 that the T1's and SCXXL complement each other extremely well.

Whichever one you choose, you're building an amazing system that will reward you with LOTS of beautiful sound!!

Sometimes the size of the room alone isn't the right way to decide. I had Triton 2 speakers which we loved, in our family room. Hugely high ceiling, pretty large, open extending into other areas of the house. However, not a ton of damping material - no window curtains, a hardwood floor (although with a thick rug and thick rug pad). Leather furniture. The bass output was set a notch or two above mid-way. We had a subwoofer that handled the chair-shaking bass for starship scenes.

Fell in love with the Triton 1 speakers when they came out and upgraded. Spent most of the first week turning the bass output lower and lower and lower and lower. Well below half way. Still ended up having to add bass traps in the front of the room and back walls, because those radiators put out SO MUCH ENERGY, and our room just doesn't absorb it well. Not a problem at the mids and top end, though... which suggests that I'd probably have been as happy with the Triton 2+. No sub now either - the Triton 1 put out so much low bass it could make your coffee jump out of its cup.

So, not just the size of the room, particularly for bass... you also need to think about how those big radiators are going to interact with the room. I've had several friends switch to Goldenear speakers after hearing ours, and I convinced them to request, or accept, an in-home trial from the dealer before they buy, and in about half the cases, they ended up with a smaller Triton model than they thought they wanted.

The rest of our system is Aon2 in the L/R rear, and the SuperSat 60 for the center front. It's a great theater system, but two channel music is 80% of what gets played, and played beautifully.
