I visited my local GoldenEar dealer last week and auditioned the Triton 2's... They sounded great . However, the room they are going into is a dedicated Home Theater that is approximately 20 x 25 feet. It has three levels of seating starting about 12 ft back from the front wall The ceiling at the top level is 9 ft and 11 ft at the front. Previously I was running a 15" powered subwoofer by Klipsh. I had the ListenUp dealer (outstanding by the way) in Denver combine the Triton 2's with the ForceField 5 and the combination was amazing! That said, I went ahead and placed the order for the ForceField 5 as well. I am powering up the system with a Marantz SR6005 Surround receiver which can provide 7.1 output @ 110 W / Channel. I currently have the surround speakers in the back wall and am thinking of adding the 2 additional speakers on the side wall around the middle of the second row of seats.

Here is the question. Sub placement and settings. I would like to have a 3 sub setup with the Triton 2's being the front pair of subs and I am thinking of positioning the ForceField 5 in the back of the theater (either center or in the corner opposite the entry. I have read through the forum and have only seen a short reference to what the optimal speaker output would be for this combination. Should I use the Triton 2's as a large setting with Sub ON and then output the LFE to the rear sub? I believe that the Marantz system can set an electronic crossover for each speaker. Also, what two side speakers would you recommend , or should I just stick with 5.1. I also have a decent center channel (infinity). My opinion is; As long as the base is crisp there is no such thing as too much base when watching an action flick.

Use of this room is 90% Home Theater 10% Music listening.

We suggest the SuperSat on-wall as surrounds/rears. In a large room a 7.1 setup is nice, surrounds on the side, rears on the back wall (less than 6' apart). Far as the center goes, I'm sure it is decent, but it won't match and that will be a pretty big drawback. For a big room Triton Two theater I'd say get a SuperCenter XL. Much more important than adding surrounds/rears.

Also, the rears on the back wall are built into the wall and I would say are placed about 17 feet apart and 5 1/2 ft above the highest platform level or 7 1/2 feet above the Triton 2 location (lowest platform level).

Sorry for the delayed response, your message temporarily was invisible. The 3D Array is not a center channel speaker.

Subs in front, out of corners, is always the preferred positioning.

You have a lot more experience with this than I do, but I want to follow up with you on the sub placement.
I intend to run the T2s in the front as full range, using their built in subs. But I really like bass, deep bass, so I intend to run another sub, but I don't want to put them in the corners up front, and really don't have room up front. So my plan is (indeed, I have the cable in the concrete floor already laid in) to put a sub back in the back of the home theater, centered. I thought the 3 subs might compliment being in several places, making the standing nodes less problem.
Am I messing up here?

Hi Wayne - sub in the back is fine and quite common. In the system design you are describing the bass from the subwoofer will only be bass from the LFE channel. So, unless you do some kind of "double bass" mode in the processor (not recommended), the sub and the Tritons will not have shared output.

Adding a ForceField 5 to play the LFE track from the back of the room will have many benefits, the most worthwhile being a gain in system headroom (because the Tritons will not be asked to play LFE and full frequency bass). If you want one caveat, it would be that LFE can go up to 120Hz, which might yield some unwanted directional clues. Best fix for this? A second LFE sub up front somewhere! Next best fix, set the LFE crossover at 80-100Hz.
