I listened to GoldenEar Triton 3+ speakers at my local dealer this weekend and they blew me away. I'm having a house built and will have a 23 ft x 24 ft room with 13 ft ceilings that I'm making into a home gym. I'm going to build a new music audio system for this room. Loud, quality music is important to me. Probably just going to go with Triton 2+ for a little more. I'm fairly new to all this stuff - would love some advice on what to purchase to push these speakers. I've spent several hours reading on this forum and gotten some ideas, but certain aspects of my situation are unique and I don't want to assume anything given the large investment.
What are some good options (make & model) to use to get the most out of these speakers for my given situation? I'm open to an Integrated Amp or separates. I know there's no single answer, but when you're new this stuff is really confusing since it seems you can't just read, for instance, Watts, and make a judgement. So I'd like to have a handful of opinions with options.
Thanks so much for your advice!
- Room Size - 23'x24'x13'
Room Configuration - Will have a 12x12' climbing training board, squat rack, treadmill, and other strength training gear.
What I'll be doing in the room - Strength training & Climbing where I want to have quality music, at occasionally very loud levels (helps me lift more weight!)
Sources - Exclusively will stream from a Sonos Port. Maybe occasionally from my iPhone. No CDs, No turntable, etc.
What I listen to - this is for Music only (no TV, etc.). I listen to Hip-Hop, Rock, and Alternative
What I want - High quality, crisp, clear, articulate, full sound that's on the brighter side. Loud when I want.
Budget for Amps/Pre/Post/etc - $3,000-5,000 USD
Other Requirements - Want ability to control volume from my iPhone. Would like it to be able to turn on automatically when the Sonos Port starts playing music.

I think you can easily achieve what you want given your budget. However, I think your desire to have control ability via your iPhone (I assume wirelessly) is going to limit your options, if in fact there are any options at all.
Your desire to play "loud" depends on what you consider loud. Most folks would consider loud music to be anything 90 decibels or above. Any one of the power tritons can easily get to that level with relatively low wattage, so in that sense you have many options.
Best of luck with your new room/gym/audio combo.

Jandre WELCOME to the form. You're in good company. You can't go wrong with Goldenear speakers. I noticed your into strength training. Up until 3 weeks ago I did body building/strength training for 23 years. One thing I could not tolerate was music playing while I trained. It stood in the way of counting reps and poundage. Every rep and weight used was recorded in a Journal. I always new what I had done today as well as the day before. I never went into a workout blind. That's just what I felt comfortable with. Do what ever you need to do to get the job done.
As far as Recommendations for powering the Triton 2+, I personally like a Solid State amp with a tube Preamp.
Here's an Integrated amp from Nad which has potential.

Thank you. Given that the only source I care about for this room is Sonos, and I'm using a Port, my latest consideration is to use only a Sonos Port, feeding some Amp that I'll purchase, feeding the Triton 2+. Any thoughts on that? That should allow me to control the volume, tracks, etc. via the Sonos App on my iPhone I believe.

Thank you. That NAD amp is on my short list. Two questions:
- The GE website specs show the Triton 2+ impedance as "4Ω (Compatible with 8Ω)". And I see it recommends feeding the 2's with 20-500W. When I look at Amps, it typically shows Watts for 8Ω then it shows doubles the Watts for 4Ω. I should be focused on the Wattage for the 4Ω, correct? And based on the recommended speaker Wattage specs, should I ideally be shooting for an Amp toward the high end of that 500W for the 4Ω rating of the amp?

You're welcome, jandre. My response here is admittedly but unintentionally a bit vague. The only thing I have to add is that there are hundreds of amplifier ((pre-amps, integrated, etc.) manufacturers and within that many models, giving you over a thousand possibilities. I'm very pleased with the performance I'm getting from my Musical Fidelity M6si and feel it pairs very well with the Tritons. Therefore, I'd recommend that you consider something in the way of a Musical Fidelity integrated amp.
