I believe in surround sound for ideal music playback. I agree with Wayne a live concert is much more than stereo. When I attend classical concerts what impresses me the most is the huge front sound stage! A hundred instruments playing at once-WOW.

My question is the need for putting large expensive speakers such as the Triton Two's in the rear. My music set up is Triton Two's Front Left/Right - Super Sub XXL{Front and center between the Triton Two's} - Eon 3's rear. When I listen to live music I hear very little coming from the rear just reflections or ambience. That's why I set my rears to the minimum just enough to hear a difference when muted. I do not need bass coming from the rears that is handled quite well by the subwoofer. If I needed more bass in the room I would add another sub in another location which would be less expensive than going with Towers in the rear. My listening space is huge with cathedrial ceiling. Maybe even Eon 3's are overkill. For my purposes SuperSats in the rear might have accomplished the same goal. On that thought-

Who will be the first on this site to put References in the rear???
So much music-so little time!

Hi wweiss, thanks for agreeing with me.
And I am NOT going with References anywhere, can't afford em.
But to answer what you are asking, I guess it depends on what you are listening to. I have a lot of music, concerts and movies that have minimal information in the surrounds. Damn em.
But I have others that have full range sound and music in the surrounds. For instance a good movie surround can get totally immersive and powerful, I found the latest (season 6) of Game of Thrones had a killer surround.
I have other concerts that put you in the middle of the sound. Some blu-ray music only discs make wonderful, full range use of the surrounds. But some of the best and best known are the TACET recordings where there are 5 instruments recorded individually playing one from each of the 5.1 speakers surrounding the listening position. GREAT STUFF, and believe me, you will need at least your Aons if not full range towers.
Try it, you might love it like I do.
God Bless,
Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.
