Hi, twinturbo11
I also have a Marantz SR 7010. I power the fronts through a connected NAD C275BEE stereo amp, which I feel gives extra dynamics, and power, for the fronts, AND takes some of the total load off the Marantz's amps, leaving more reserve for the other channels. I do like what the NAD amp adds. SQ is top notch. I would stick with this combo whether the fronts were in-ceiling or the floor standing speakers I have now. It seems there is plenty of dynamic power for all 9 channels at all sound levels (though the Marantz SQ was pretty impressive even without the NAD amp added. I already had the amp when I got the Marantz...not sure I would have felt the need for external amp help if I had started out with the SR 7010.)
But yes, adding an external amp can help with power reserve and add some dynamic punch. Lots of folks like mono blocks, like Emotiva's. I'll leave describing/recommending those or other amp's to those with more direct experience.
Happy listening and enjoy your HTR 7000's!! IF I add a second pair of ATMOS height speakers in the future, the 7000's were already high on my list. Your opinion of them reinforces my thought process on what they could add....
