I am researching either finishing half my basement (about 1000 sq ft. worth) or just doing some finishing work in the home theatre area, 16' x 9' x 25'. The sound is pretty good right now though and there is so little ROI that I'm not sure it's worth it. I may just do some work on the ceiling to contain the sound from the other floors a little bit.

Boggswade,

I understand the ROI completely. We just bought a home last Summer that I hope to retire in. Before that, I didn't want to sink a bunch of money into a basement that I wasn't going to get back in the sale of the home. Insulating the ceiling would be cheap and definitely help isolate the sound so you don't disturb others if your listening gets s bit spirited. You can do a lot with room acoustics without finishing the room. You've already started with the rugs. It's all about balancing ROI and utility. I certainly have no doubts it sounds amazing!
