Hi, Jim

I see you have height channels.. how do you like and use them? I am wanting to add back in a pair of unused Invisa 525's via changing over from a 7.1 receiver to a 9.2.

Any feedback on what the heights do (or don't do )for your listening experience appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad you joined in.

Thanks Wayne.

You might say it is born somewhat out of necessity that it is nicely integrated. My wife helps with some decorating but if I don't do the hard part of concealing things nicely, it's no more budget for upgrades.

I must say it sounds amazing with movies and music. I upgraded from an NHT system that I thought was quite good but it was no comparison to the GE system.

Happy listening!
Jim

Hi Rick,

Right now I don't have any content with height channels so I am using them only in Dolby Surround or Neo:X simulating height. In this context it adds to the overall "emersiveness" of the experience. I enjoy it but I am really looking forward to getting Atmos or DTS:X content some day. I would love dedicated ceiling speakers but in a first floor living room it really isn't an option.

Happy listening!
Jim

Thanks T Cobe. This is definitely a labor of love. I'm also fortunate that my wife enjoys the setup almost as much as I do!

I absolutely love the 8802A in 2 channel. I use pure direct mode and I think it sounds amazing. The highs are very clear without being bright and the bass is incredible. Voices and piano also sound exceptional with great body but still amazing clarity. I think it is a good match for the Krell amps and the GE speakers. Sometimes I sit amazed at how lifelike the sound is or find my self looking around for what caused the noise only to realize it was the music. On a budget that can't afford a dedicated preamp and prepro I really don't miss anything with the 8802A.

At this point my biggest plan for future upgrade would be either a new DAC (PS Audio Direct Stream) or possibly the SSXXL. However, my budget is pretty taxed at the moment. :-)

Hey Jim,
That should be a really sweet sounding system.
I had the Marantz AV 7005 until recently, coupled with some really good Vincent amps. I went with the Emotiva XMC-1 which sounds a little better than the Marantz (not much) mostly because it has great room correction. Your 8802A should be much better than my Marantz was.
I think you have a winner and it is easy to see it was a work of love.
Happy listening,
God Bless,
Wayne
