I am still waiting for my Triton 1s to arrive for my front channel, but wanted to hear those who have used the Triton 7 or Triton 5 for rear channels and what they think of such a setup. It's not a question of overkill, since I know some of you have although few have Triton 2 for rear channels.

My question really is how well the Triton 7 or Triton 5 might intigrate into such a system. I will also be using a single FF4 in the meantime and listen to how it sounds before adding a possible second!
i know some prefer the rear speakers to sit high and aimed towards the seating position, and if possible the Triton is not a good solution for this (I guessing there will be those who say, are you kidding me? :P )

So finally if the Tritons are good enough, is the smallest of them all I need?
My room is rounghly 11'x24'x 7.5'height.

Not so long ago I thought about driving four powered Tritons, but have since changed my mind, thinking that two T1 up front and two subwoofers with passive Tritons might even be possibly better.... I'm sure there are many solutions...

Thanks in advance for chiming in.

Good evening, Po. Still waiting on my T1s as well. I have also been thinking a lot about my surround channels. I currently have the Aon 3s but have recently been considering T7s, 5s, or 2s as well. With Dolby Atmos and DTS-X and directional sound, the days of surround effects is coming to a close and being replaced by full frequency, directional sound. Fully capable surround speakers will provide a significant benefit to future surround mixes. The big question becomes whether or not powered towers or passive towers will fill this role better. Recent trade show demos by GET included T1s up front with T2s in the rear for 360 degrees of full frequency response. Reviews have been extremely positive!

Time will only tell if the T5s trickle down tech will make them a better match to the T1s. I'll certainly wait a while and use my Aon 3s in the meantime. The Aons are a tremendous value and provide amazing full frequency response for such a small, two-way design. Hopefully our patience will be rewarded this week and we will both be rolling into the weekend with a pair of T1s to break in and review!

Cheers,

T Cobe

There are some interesting options to consider regarding what's in the rear of the room. My current approach is to have Triton Sevens in the Rear, but driven by a separate AV Receiver as "Rear Fronts". I have a separate pair of older KLH speakers as Rear Surrounds. If I had only the Triton Sevens available, I might consider an "A/B" speaker switch to permit use of the Sevens as both Rear/Fronts and Rear Surrounds.

Choosing the best configuration for Rear speakers might depend upon one's listening preferences. In my case, listening to music predominates my AV time. I prefer the Pure Direct mode for listening to my Triton One Fronts. I have been experimenting with Analog Direct and with "Concert Hall Simulations" settings for my Triton Seven Rear Fronts. This experiment is possible because I am using the separate AV Receiver to drive the Triton Sevens. I also enjoy the ease with which I can vary the audio level for the Rear Triton Sevens as I change the audio level for the Triton One Fronts to accommodate different music and listening situations.

When watching movies, my Triton Sevens are not in play. Rear Surround is coming from my KLH Rears (and from my 50 year old Altec Lansing floor speakers being used as Side Surrounds). I also have a rear Paradigm sub and a set of upper side and rear surrounds (surrounds mounted near the ceiling) being driven by another separate AV Receiver. These speakers are active for movies, but passive tor music (except for the sub, which is active for music).

All of this gear provides a wide variety of setting options for me to play with (which, for me, is part of the enjoyment of my AV experiences). I encourage others to experiment as space and budgets permit.

Happy listening to all,

Art

T Cobe,

Yeah I'm mostly data collecting at this point. My more recent concerns are with sound proofing my room (already finished basement), so I'm reluctant to tear out my walls all over again to do it right, which seems like the only way unless I move house!

I can't wait to get the T1s in, and should just be happy to have those and the SCXL, and my current setup. I think your Aon 3s should rock with your T1 set up....Let me know how it goes once they come in, or if you are left still wanting more :P

Thanks
