Hi csprad68,
I am no expert here, so just making suggestions. And it is your room, likely you will have some Wife Acceptance Factor to deal with.
Personally, I would keep them (your speakers) farther apart, like in the first picture. The bass loading in the corner for the left sub might be some issue, not sure. But for imaging and separation, soundstage, I would keep them as far apart as reasonable/possible.
And move the couch forward if you can? A foot or more? I see two side chairs, do you normally have more than 3 people watching a movie, listening to music? Just a thought here, can you try moving those chairs and coffee table out of the room and moving the couch forward a couple of feet and toe in all the speakers toward your center couch seat? Just to see how it sounds to your and your family?
You should experiment, these are only rough guidelines I am following, just suggestions. (coffee tables are bad at reflecting some center channel sound and blocking others and those chairs will just block sound--I know because I have one in my living room that does just that and HAS to be there, ha ha).
Keeping your wife/family all happy is first and foremost, ahead of great sound to me. BUT if you can improve the watching/listening experience AND keep everyone happy, why not?
Enjoy the ride and please let us know what you decide? And how it works?
God Bless,
Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.
