Wow, that plasma does suck a lot of juice! That device seems pretty informative. I can see moving that around all over my house. Thanks for sharing your results. I guess the only time you need to worry may be during intense home theater use.

Yeah, this little device is pretty cool because it's designed to allow you to monitor which devices are power hogs. I first tested it with a hair dryer. I was suprised to see power draw with just the power cord plugged in.

Yeah, the plasma says "550" watts on the back panel, but it can certainly pull more than that. The other interesting thing about these power test is the voltage drop from 113.9 volts down to 107.7 volts. That's a pretty big drop in voltage and potentially worthy of me paying an electrician to run another circuit.

Worth looking into but I'm not sure running a dedicated line would prevent voltage drop, but an electrician should be able to tell you. I've been extremely happy I ran all the dedicated outlets I have. I have zero background noise, interference, or any other issues. The cost was less than $1,000 total and included a separate panel and six 20-amp drops. If you have room left in your electrical panel, it should cost less.

Seriously, I do not understand the calculation on the bottom, the yearly cost? It is the same yearly cost in all of them.
Looks like time has to be factored in there, how long you have the home theater running cranked. And how OFTEN that happens, and then it can calculate how much that home theater and Queens of the Stone Age are gonna cost you.
I too have a Plasma and it gets hot and I assume it adds a good bit to my home theater costs, elect. costs. I know it makes me run the A/C more, but the pic is REALLY SWEET, much better than the LCD and LED sets, at least until recently.
And my amps, they like to suck the juice too. Well, who doesn't?

Another consideration with regard to AC power source: If interconnected audio/video gear is connected to more than one AC source and if those AC sources are connected to different circuits on different fuses/breakers, then there is the possibility of a ground loop. If a ground loop does exist and manifests itself, it will be audible as 60 Hz hum. The simplest correction would be to connect all gear to AC emanating from a single fuse/breaker.

I have interconnected AV gear receiving AC from more than one circuit source, but I do not have a ground loop.

So true. I wish that electricians could wire up an 80-amp circuit breakers to a PDU with multiple 15-amp or 20-amp outlets. This would star ground everything and still give us enough power. Not sure if that's doable though or even possible due to electrical code.
