Randy_Newman_Academy_of_Music_Philadelphia_09_23_1977

This concert was sent to radio stations on reel-to-reel from Warner Bros. Records. Fans of Randy Newman probably know more about this recording than I do - but it has always been a favorite of mine. There is a lot of interplay with the audience, especially late in the show when Randy Newman talks about writing the score for "Ragtime."

For years I played a cassette copy of this that I had taped when it first aired in my market in 1978. Years later I ran across a large reel at an estate sale. The cover of the AMPEX box is as it appears as the front jpeg that is included. There was a track sheet with notes to the late night announcer as to which commercials to include between the two halves of the show. These sheets are reproduced on the back jpeg.

I have looked for this as a CD on the web for awhile. Finding nothing I have chosen to post it here. There may be some frequency imperfections due to the transfer. Hopefully it is good enough for you to play endlessly on your car stereo.

One Set: (1:35:03)

05.[20:17] Rebubula>
06.[21:12] Yodelittle

Notes:
- Timmy Tucker is unfinished and is the slow version as common in spring 96
- Rebubula is unfinished and contains Inca Roads (Frank Zappa) teases
- Thanks to moelinks.com for the setlist details
- This transfer is available in both the original 48khz format, as well as a new CD quality 44.1khz format

Band:
Al Schnier guitar and vocals
Chuck Garvey guitar and vocals
Rob Derhak bass and vocals
Chris Mazur drums and vocals

About this show:
This is one of my all time favorite sets of music by any band at any time and of course my favorite moe. show ever

About this DAT:
This is a DAT (1) made for me by ev off the master not long after the show happened, likely Summer 1996. I have memory of him getting ahold of the master either directly or indirectly, as everyone was really excited about this show as communicated and reviewed by Wakeme who attended. ev transferred his DAT (1) back on 3/1/2005 and uploaded it to the LMA in 44.1khz resampled format as the only source of this show to ever circulate. His transfer has over 10,000 downloads and 15,000 views as of this posting. This fileset is the first time the original 48khz files have been shared in FLAC, tagged, and level adjusted format

About the track splits:
As you will see vs the original transfer from 2005, e and I vary a little on the track splits. You will see I took from BYD, added to CIA and Timmy. He would get a chuckle out of me telling him he was wrong and have something snarky and witty to say.

Seeded to etree on:
