This was a favorite demo track (for bass evaluation especially) back in the late 90's, used by all the good speaker companies (including the one I was with back then). Great cut.

Not sure where this post best belongs...

Watched Jesus Christ Superstar the other night on tv, watching Elton John: I’m Still Standing now, also on tv.

A minor gripe: why are so many ads in surround, and shows like these aren’t???

Gotta say, though, that the Elton John tribute, broadcast to play fronts only on my system, took me a bit to realize that the Ref’s were the only speakers playing.
I had to walk up to the center and other speakers to confirm they weren’t in fact playing. Dang. Those Ref’s sure can fill a room.

funny Bro Rick!!!!!
I am glad your TRefs are filling the room with music.
I OFTEN find the opposite on TV or computer (YouTube) sound. Nearly always, like if I listen to a track on here from the Tube, I am like, whoa that is filling the room!! And then go, Oh, yeah, the surround sound emulator is on my XMC-1, it defaults to that. I have to put it on stereo IF I want to hear things in two channel (which I RARELY do). Normally I just leave it be, not worth the trouble to change it.
Even TV shows, the ones that come in stereo I let dtsNeo6Cinema convert to a sorta surround sound. We now get a few shows on the TV that I can hit a switch and get DD 5.1 they say, and I have tried it a few times, have to crank it WAY up to hear that, sad to say but the dtsNeo6 sounds as good, so I normally leave it.
Course, YMMV and probably does.
God Bless,
Wayne

Hi, Wayne

The Dolby Surround processing looks for cues somehow to up mix to all nine channels, and when it doesn’t find whatever those cues are, it reverts to two channel fronts only sometimes, center channel only sometimes. Same with some older 2 channel music. At least that’s how my Marantz AVR does it.

Could have switched to multi channel, which always uses fronts, center, surrounds, but not heights. But I was enjoying the Ref only music so much I just left it in the Dolby Surround setting. :)

Happy listening!
