I am in the very preliminary stages of planning a new hometheater in my new house about a year out.

I will have Triton 2’s up front with SCXL. Left my previous surrounds at old house.

The square footage would be roughly 550 sq feet or around 4200-4400 cubic feet in the new theater.

Contemplating triton 5 ‘s for two purposes: rear surrounds, fill in bass for the space. Cost can not exceed the price of the triton 5’s because I have a lot of speakers (GET) to buy.

I own a paradigm sub 15 ( 1750 watts rms, 3400 watts peak). To do the heavy lifting.

Will also have atmos (SS3’s). 5.2.4 or 7.2.4

Other thought I had was to do an additional sub with SS 50’s as surrounds?

I'm a believer in having plenty of bass punch available for HT duty, AND in having multiple bass sources plus good bass from the surround position. The effect can be dramatic in making a movie scene seem real.

Either 2 T5's plus your Paradigm sub in the rear if you can put it there, giving you in effect three subs with the T2's as full range fronts with LFE connected, or 2 SS 50's plus an additional sub in back and the Paradigm in front with the T2's, giving you four subs would give you all of the above. $2,200 for 2 T5's, $2475 for 2 SS 50's plus a SuperSub X, so cost would be a bit more for SS 50's with a SuperSub (hence your earlier question about FF5 availability?)

I think you'd be happy with either choice!! I guess, as a bass head, I would lean just a little toward the extra sub, giving four, and the SS 50's as surrounds, crossed at 100 or 120 HZ. The sub at 120 HZ and down would fill in for full range sound. But again, either set up would be awesome!!!

Rick's suggestions are spot-on. If budget does get stretched, you could use SuperSat 3 & a SuperSub X in the rear, but a pair of T5 instead would be great, albeit with a little less bass slam than having a SuperSub back there.

How would the super sub x or Xl mate with the paradigm sub? As there is a big power differential?

Shouldn’t I mate it with another paradigm sub, or something with equal power?

You’ve been using the Paradigm in your system with the T2’s providing bass also. Has that been working for you sound quality wise?

All Goldenear speakers mesh perfectly with each other. Adding another Goldenear speaker in the form of a SuperSub X wouldn’t change that balance one bit. If the Paradigm and the T2’s mesh OK, the SuperSub and the Paradigm would also.

I would opt for a SuperSub over another Paradigm in a heartbeat. I wouldn’t worry about trying to match power, it’s far more about matching sound quality.
