Although the sound of the 50c is similar (especially the mid and high frequencies) to the Triton 1, the XXL which I also have and the Reference center make a much better center channel. The sound is much fuller and "cleaner". Because of this voices in particular have a much more natural quality. Also, the ability to play loud cleanly would be a big advantage of the reference center. I would make every effort to try and keep the reference center.

Maybe this is a stupid thought but have you thought about putting it above the tv?

Good luck!

Jim

I could put it above the Tv but it would be very high. The mantle mount is huge so it would be at the very top which would require re tooling the studs.

I have to believe a shelf can be built that pulls out and drops down. Two cabinet makers have said the entire never done this but it must be possible.

How much would it really hurt the sound if the tv was in front of it but by two feet? The mount not only lowers the tv but extends it. It’s a mantle mount mm860. Basically an motorized version of the mm750.

So, I don't have a TV in my home theater room, I have a projection screen. The Reference center is 2.5-3 feet in front of the screen with absolutely no ill-effects. I Also in my second and third systems with tvs the distance of the center channel to the front of the tv is about the same, again with no ill-effects that I can tell. I'm pretty sure having it in front of the tv will not cause any significant concerns.

Maybe others can think of reasons why this wouldn't be a good idea (reflections off the tv?) but I think it would be fine.

Right reflections are what I am concerned about. Just to be clear if I left it there the TV would be in front of the speaker.

My brother has a unique pull out shelf in his kitchen cabinet which is designed for auto lifting a heavy appliance. Perhaps it's possible to mount it in reverse to pull out and lower instead of raise.
