Currently have two Supersat 50's for L/R and am looking to add a center channel. Seems like there's not much of a difference between the 60C and Supercenter XL, but am wondering if the upgrade to a Supercenter XXL would be noticeable (or overkill) given current setup.

Hmmn... there is probably negligible difference between a SS50C and a SS60C, but a significant difference between those and a supercenter XL. Much better bass extension in the latter. If I could fit the XL, it’d be a no-brainer.
Triton Two front L/R
SuperSat 50c center
Triton Seven surround L/R
SuperSat 50 surround rear L/R
AVR Arcam AVR-21
Amp Marantz mm7025
Velodyne optimum 10” sealed, back left corner
SuperSub X front-right corner

Hi, BCTich

Timecop is of course correct, that the SuperCenter series in general has more bass extension capability than the the SuperSat series. They can be crossed at a lower HZ.

Don't know what the rest of your system consists of, but providing for and distributing bass sources is part of the fun and challenge of assembling a HT system. Given that you're wanting to add a center channel, is this your first step toward that goal, or part of a system already in progress?

I'm a believer in distributing bass. All GEt speakers play their role well and work well together. So it's more a question, IMO, of locating and providing for bass support given what GEt speaker options you choose. For SuperSats, some bass support from other speakers in the area works well, as they cover the 100 HZ and up portion with typical GET sound quality . If you have no other bass support up front, then I think you'd want bass help from the new center channel. And yes the SuperCenter XXL has more bass oomph than the XL, but all Super Centers play with bass support down to at least 80 HZ. Would it be too much for your SuperSat 50's? Probably not, it's a question of setting appropriate gains for all. It's more a question I think of how you want to expand your system in total and what speakers, and bass support, you want where.

You haven't mentioned what/how you would like to cover bass and full range sound for the expanded system in total. Can you tell us more about what you have now and what you are envisioning?

Have fun expanding your system!

Rick

RJohn and TimeCop, appreciate the replies.

For context, we recently moved and in our old apt the SS50s for L/R and the SVS SB-1000 sub that we had was fine. The house though has the following built in section in the wall in the family room for the TV. The room is also a lot larger now so we’re noticing the lack of a center channel a lot mode.

Plan is to mount the SS50’s on the posts using DefTech ProMounts and then add a center channel for the time being. Would ultimately like to add speakers in ceiling and/or SS3s as surrounds. Based on the room setup though we won’t ever be able to do floorstanding speakers (but may try to build out a theater in the basement down the road)

From some measurements the shelf the center channel would sit on is ~12inches wide so should be able to fit a SC XXL and assumed the extra base would be useful over just a SS60.

Photos of the room are attached (SVS SB-1000 is next to couch).

Appreciate any advice!

Great looking room and set-up! Your pup looks ready to enjoy some music! :)

Having had, in succession over time, for center channel speakers, a Supersat 50C, then the newly introduced Supercenter XL, then when they were next introduced, the Supercenter XXL, each worked perfectly with the other GEt speakers at appropriate crossover settings. And each step up was very noticeable. The Supercenter XL DID add a lot of bass extension and authority, as Timecop says. And yes, the XXL takes it all a significant step further, with the two added bass drivers and separate passive radiators, plus even better clarity with the new balanced crossover technology.

Your choice what will work best for you, but if you're looking to get some added bass extension up front plus center channel presence, either the XL or XXL will do that, and well. And the XXL with added bass drivers does move the bar even higher.

Have fun and Happy listening!

Rick
