Allan, marital bliss takes some give and take and negotiation at times. You NEED that shelf just about the TV for your center channel speaker.
Don't you have something you could trade for that shelf? Lawn mowing, taking out the trash, washing dishes??????
That is where a center channel speaker should be, angled downward.

I believe HT budget negotiations and land grant authorizations for the Tritons exhausted what good will remained. Like the motorcycle she just doesn't get this and is only putting up with it because it's important to me - though agreeing to a dining room table and talk of re-carpeting the house may have helped some. There may be a creative way to fit a full range center on that shelf but I'll have to save that for another day.
