I have been reading through the forum and the website and am very interested in Golden Ear speakers. However at this time I have never heard them. I am looking at turning a room over the garage into a home theater. The room is about 13 x 21 and I will have to have the TV on the long wall. Probably 40% music / 60% movies and TV. Based on research only, I am thinking Triton 1s up front, Supercenter XXL center, and 4 HTR 7000s for the in ceiling ATMOS speakers.

I am less certain about the surrounds. The furthest I can get the seating away from the back wall will be about 3 feet. I have the following ideas:

1. Triton 2+ for side surrounds and only do 5.1.4
2. Aon 3s for both back and side surrounds for 7.1.4
3. Triton2+ for side surrounds and Aon 3 for rear surrounds for 7.1.4

I have contacted my closest dealer who is about 1.5 hours away. I plan to visit him June 23rd. Unfortunately he only has the Triton 2+ to audition.

I have the following questions:

1. Do you think I will get a good enough feel for the whole line by auditioning only the Triton 2+?
2. What do you think about my surround options above or any others suggestions for surrounds?
3. Can I get by with the subwoofers in the Triton 1s (and perhaps the Triton 2+) and not need a separate subwoofer?

Thanks in advance for your feed back.

The Triton Two+ will give a very good representation of GoldenEar.

Try the Triton Two+ and Aon 3 switching them between side and rear surround to see which sounds best to you.

While the two pairs of Tritons will produce plenty of bass for nearly any room, consider adding a SuperSub XXL so the LFE channel gets its own speaker and then the T1 and T2+ can be used as full range speakers dedicated to their channels.

It sounds like you are putting together a very high performance system and will be one you'll enjoy for many, many years!

Hey, Hagman

Welcome to the forum!!!

You'll find lots of friendly, non judging help here.

Moderator Dude has heard more GEt speaker combo's and is THE expert on what works best.

My input: I have had T1 fronts, T2 surrounds for several years, with separate LFE feeds to the fronts and surrounds. I love the bass and musicality I get!

With Aon's as surrounds, I'd want a free standing sub to help. I've auditioned the SSXXL, and yes it is a bass marvel. With T2's as surrounds, LFE feeds to both the T1's and T2's, your call. I'm a self admitted bass head, and those LFE connected T1's and T2;s just give me prodigious bass. I've not tried Moderator Dude's suggested combo of LFE to a SSXXL and T1's and T2's as full range no LFE leads. Must be amazing!!

Hard to go wrong with GEt's!

Happy listening and testing!

Rick

Moderator - Thank you for very much for your insights. Good to know I will be getting a good representation of the line from the Triton 2+ and I am looking forward to hearing them in person in a week.

Rick - Thank you as well for sharing your experience. In looking at your signature line the system I am thinking about is very similar to yours. I hope you don't mind me asking a few more questions. In addition to the similar speaker set up, I also am looking at adding an Oppo player (not sure about 203 or 205) and already have Sonos in several rooms in the house.

Did you hook up your Oppo using HDMI, multi channel analog, or both?

Do you run the Sonos connect through the Oppo or directly to your AVR?

Thanks in advance,

Hagman

Hey, Hagman

No problem on asking questions. That's what this forum is for.

Re my OPPO hook-up, it's both HDMI (one each for audio and video), and 5.1 multi-channel analog interconnects. I tend to use the HDMI/Atmos/Dolby surround connections the most to take advantage of the height channels, but do listen to some music Blu-rays in 5.1analog direct. The 105 has a pretty darn good multi-channel DAC, and I understand the 205's is probably a notch or two better.

Re the SONOS hook-up, I tried going through the OPPO first, didn't find any particular advantage, and switched to a direct feed to the AVR for simpler operation. (I do feed the SONOS digital out to the AVR through a Wyred 4 Sound Remedy Reclocker/upsampler to clean up/smooth out the sound).

Enjoy your audition of the T2+'s! Happy listening! You're headed for a great system.

Well I really enjoyed my audition of the Triton2+ and have pulled the trigger on my new system. The dealer was very helpful and went through a number of options with me. Both the dealer and his Golden Ear rep were concerned that my side surrounds were going to be too close to the seating area with the way the room was laying out. They suggested MPX for both side and back surrounds, but my room does not allow for in wall side surrounds. So I have downsized to a 5.4.4 system with Triton 1s up front, Supercenter XXL, Triton2+ surrounds, and 4 HTR 7000s for height speakers. I am getting an Anthem MRX1120 from the dealer as well. I am very excited about getting this set up.

I do have a question about configuration. In the "Golden Ear Speaker For Atmos Systems" page for 5.1.4 configuration it shows the four height speakers in line with the fronts and the surrounds set a little bit outside of where the other 6 speakers are lined up. However, I have also read that sometimes the HTR 7000s are set wider than other height speakers. So what is the best way to do it?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Hagman
