Hi all, i am currently using a pair of Triton 7 paired with 2 Paradigm PW 2200's. i really like the sound but am looking for more. how would this compare to the Triton 2+? if i did upgrade would i still be in need of my 2200's? 50\50 split for music and home theater. the 7's i bought used and they replaced my Monitor Audio Silver RX 6 and a pair of Paradigm Studio 60 v5. my receiver is an older Denon AVR 3805 paired with an Emotiva XPR 5 gen 2.

Thanks

Hulme,

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like you've had the opportunity to own some pretty nice speakers! How do you like the T7s compared to the Paradigm and Monitor Audio speakers? I switched from a full setup of Paradigm Monitor series speakers to GET and am very happy with the upgrade. Prior listening to the Triton Ones, I was planning on going with the Studio 100s.

Now, on to your questions. In my opinion, the T2+ would provide for better music reproduction in that it would be more cohesive and balanced. In home theater playback, it may be a bit of a toss up; however, you would actually be adding two additional subs by adding the T2+s. Would you "need" all 4 subs? Probably not, but you don't need all that power that you have in your XPR-5 either... I'm guessing your a bit like me and may enjoy things a bit to excess. Four subs would give you better dispersion and move a lot of air, which may be helpful if your have a large room. In any case, the T2+ would certainly give you more.

How are you listening to music? Disk player versus streaming? Have you considered upgrading your Denon? Maybe the XMC-1? I gave up on Denon after my 2801. I found that there was much better sounding options available even at the same price point. My guess is you would get a significant improvement in sound there as well.

If you want to upgrade your speakers first, that's certainly where you'll get the most bang for your buck. You could purchase the T2s and move the T7s to surround duty and have a pretty sweet setup. That would probably be the way I would go, but it's your money and your space. Best to audition your options thoroughly and make the best decision for your own needs and wants.

Other things to consider later are room treatments, clean power, and cables to fine tune your setup. The source component and media are also important. Garbage in equals garbage out no matter how much time and money you invest. There is a synergistic effect to each and every upgrade you make. Enjoy the journey and please check back as you proceed.

Cheers,

T Cobe

thanks for your reply, I used to love my studio 60 then i happened to get a good deal on the Monitor Audio Silver RX 6 which really made me notice how harsh the 60's could be so i sold the 60's and then happened upon a deal on the Triton 7 which are even smoother so i sold the MA. Now i am at a crossroads. keep speakers or upgrade the receiver. i would hate to swap out the receiver when there is nothing wrong with it and seeing how it is over 10 years old it is worth nothing and thus becomes a 35 pound paper weight. at least with the triton 7 i can get a majority of my money back for them. i dont generally crank my speakers but these things almost beg for it because they never get harsh. mainly i am looking to dangle a carrot to some friends and wondered if i should make it a package deal of the 7's plus the subs but not sure how that works now with no direct LFE coming from receiver.i use my PS3 and Spotify thru a chromecast audio for music. have you ever heard of canuck audio mart? i dont know where you are located but it is a great place to swap\trade\sell.

Hi Hulme,
I have the T 2s (original, not +) and the T 7s. The T 7s need bass help for full range music, and surely for movies.
IMHO.
I have a ForceField 5 with my T 2s, because I want the bass. You might not.
IF you are a bass head, replace the 2s for the 7s and keep the subs. IF you just need reasonable full range music and movies, then sell the subs and replace the 7s with the 2s.
They are both magic sounding speakers, but the 2s have WAY MORE magic!!!!!
Hope this helps,
God Bless,
Wayne
