After years of saving for our daughters' college, my wife and I are finally ready to spend a bit on ourselves...and I have volunteered for the job of setting up a small home theater. I'm not an audiophile or home theater expert, but we're looking for a good quality system we'll be happy with for years. Focus will be mainly movies and sports so a clear center channel is essential, but we'll also use it for some music.

For now, we're sticking with our existing TV and receiver (Harman Kardon AVR1700), and focusing on speakers. Our room is a small 13x14 with 9' ceilings.

The speakers I'm looking at would be the Triton Three towers for mains, the SuperSat 50 for center channel, and the Super Sat 3 for the surrounds. Thoughts about this setup in this size room and with our current receiver?

jrmills20,
Man, you can't be a beginner at this. The system you describe would be brilliant!!!! A wonderful sounding system.
The only way I could recommend anything better is to go with the Triton 2s on the front instead of the 3s, just to have that extra fullness and power and awesome sound. But that might mean spending more than you want. But if you can stretch for the 2s I cannot imagine that you would ever regret it.
In any case, you are onto a winner. Well done, ENJOY!!!!
God bless the child that's got his own.

Thanks Wayne. I've thought about the Triton 2s, but I'd already be stretching the budget convincing my wife about the 3s. An extra $1000 might be more than I could get, but we'll see. Maybe I can convince her when we head up to the dealer to give them a listen.

One other possible upgrade I might consider (for about $500) is getting SuperSat 50s for the surrounds as well, instead of the Super Sat 3s. Maybe more bang for the buck?

Probably heading to the dealer (about 75 miles away) next week sometime.

jrmills20,
You are welcome, I wish I could help more.
You may well be right, perhaps the SS50s will give you more bang for the buck than the SS3s. I would think that IF you are using them as rear surrounds only, and IF you are just watching movies and want to hear bullets flying around, either will be fine, bigger is always better though. But IF you are listening to true surround sound music, where the music is coming from around and behind you, then YES go for the 50s.
BUT, the reason I suggest trying to stretch for the Triton 2s over the 3s is, you don't mention having a subwoofer. And you will NEED a sub for real home theater sound, even for great music, IMHO. But with the Trition 2s, the subs are real subs and built in. So for the long run, I would say the 2s are a great investment.
Having said that, you might find the bass with the Triton 3s enough, even for movies. And if you don't, later on you can add a sub to fill in the deep bass.
It is not simple, so you are doing the right thing, you are going to have a good listen for yourself and make up your own mind.
I am just trying to chime in and give you some ideas what to listen for.
It is all good, all fun and since you are listening to GE Tech speakers, I am sure you will find the perfect setup for you and your family.
Enjoy.
All the best,
Wayne
