Trying to get the set-up correct for my recently recieved Tritons and 50c Center. I have read earlier that I should have my reciever (pioneer VSX-1020k decent midrange) set to "Large" and 'no' Sub for the fronts; however, I do not see the option for the 'no' sub in the fronts. I only see options for Large or small? The reciever set-up menu reads:
FR L/R (Large)
FR LH/RH (none)
Center (small)
Surr W
Surr L/R (small)
SUB (yes or plus?) My dealer told to set this to plus.
I Feel that the sub Klipsch synergy 10" is supplying all of the bass, and the Tritons are offering some bass support but not what I Imagined. Only have the Tritons connected with speaker wire (as recommended). When watching a movie and there is a dramatic scene full of bass and I turn my subwoofer 'off' I lose 80% of the bass I would say. What am I missing? Crossover is set at 80hz and bass control on the back of the Tritons is at 12 o'clock. Are they not broken in yet? Only 3 days old.
When I demoed the Tritons at the dealership they were not using a sub and the tritons were thumping but I feel if I were not using my stand alone sub this would not be the case. Need the Tritons to thump and my Sub to almost be overkill ( I like bass).
Should I be using the recievers Auto Macc set-up?
Any Help is appriciated.

The problem is that you are routing the bass below 80 Hz away from the Tritons so they will not play bass below those frequencies. This is an incorrect setup. I did review the manual for your receiver and it quite clearly states there is a "NO" option for subwoofer on your receiver (see section beginning on page 101 of your manual regarding manual speaker setup). Perhaps some prior auto setup caused the option to be eliminated - if so I would reset and start over using the manual options.
The dealer is correct that the "Plus" setting is OK to use, but you must set the crossover for the fronts to none, or full range. If this is not possible then set it for the lowest possible frequency (25 Hz is often the lowest setting allowed in these cases). Use the crossover control on your stand alone subwoofer to augment the bass as desired. If this is not an option than I would suggest simply eliminating the separate sub - unless your room is HUGE it will not benefit you in any way as the Tritons have significantly more bass output and extension than you separate sub.
I have little experience with the auto setup on the Pioneer, but you can certainly try it and decide if you like the results or not - and you can also modify the settings it makes to "tweak" the results.

Thank you for your quick response and effort in reserching my problem. I knew it was a 'me' problem and not the Tritons. I am however; still a little confused. In my manual setup how can I select the SW option to say 'no' without taking the 'plus' option away?
My x.over goes down to 50hz .

You're welcome - I love this stuff, and its my job!
Sorry for the confusion, "No" and "Plus" are mutually exclusive. Typically, when L/R Main speakers are set to "Large", all the bass is directed to those speakers as long as subwoofer is set to "No/None". With this setup configuration, if a subwoofer is present (set to "Yes") SOME systems will simply send LFE only to the sub and send the full range signal to the L/R mains. Some systems, however, force the crossover to the L/R mains if a subwoofer is present. It appears that the latter is the way the Pioneer is handling bass management (I would suggest clarification from the Dealer or Pioneer on this since my impression is just conjecture*). This limits your options given the 50Hz minimum crossover. Here's what I would suggest in order of preference if the above is all correct:
* I must mention that today's a/v receivers are very complicated and there may in fact be a setting that functions in the preferred fashion (L/R set to large = no crossover with or without sub). It may be that the receiver needs to be reset to eliminate some prior settings (yours, or, if it was not in an unopened box, someone else's). Tech/Set-up support from Pioneer or the Dealer is your best bet. Also, I should mention that GoldenEar recently participated in a dealer event in Seattle that demoed the TritonCinema Two system (no stand-alone sub of course) using a new Pioneer receiver and it sounded great. TONS of bass.

- Eliminate the stand-alone sub and set the sub to "No". (Even if you don't think this is best I would suggest you try it that way for a few days);
- Keep the stand-alone sub in the system (set to "Yes") and use two "Y" connectors and long RCA cables to connect the Tritons via the sub-in as well as the speaker wire connection. (This is more complicated and will require more tweaking of level settings on the stand-alone sub and receiver.);
- Get a different receiver that allows your desired setup inherently (if you just bought it I'm sure the dealer would consider allowing you to choose an alternative).

Update:
I have been trying setting after setting on my receiver set-up with your advice K.' The Tritons did thump with just the speaker wire hooked up and sub set to 'no.' They are thumping when I have the LFE cable split and going to both of them with the sub set to 'yes'. I was unable to hook-up both the Tritons and my stand alone sub. When I would try to connect the sub's cable to one of the already 'split' ends of my other cable, It was making one of Tritons sub active. Not sure what was occurring? So it looks like I am going to not be using my sub which is OK because the Tritons were thumping, only question is with the LFE cable or without.
Watching Blu-rays is great , my 'bass test scene' is from Ironman, scene 2, when RD Jr. is demonstrating the Jericho missile. I do still have a problem though, when I switch to my Xbox 360 I am losing a ton of bass. No idea what is going on because the Xbox used to be the biggest bass.????? I used to have the volume at -32db and that would have the sub booming. Now I need it to be around -12db but then the higher frequencies (guns shooting Call of Duty) are WAY too loud. Piercing your ears even but still not much base. Anyway keep plugging away at it right? I'll have it set-up right at some point.
