Hi, first of all I would like to thank everyone active on these forums I have gathered a lot of information thanks to all your posts.

My current situation is I have a setup that currently consists of 4x Dali Zensor 1 as Front LR and Surround LR and a Zensor Vokal with a fairly low end 10" sub. The Fronts are mounted 2m (~6.5' ) apart on the wall and my rears mounted about the same distance apart on the back wall well above my head angled about 30 degrees down. My listening position is about 14' from the front. My room is roughly 10' x 18' with one side opening into the kitchen/ dining area but separated by a feature wall roughly 9' long.

I've been looking to upgrade for a while now and have been considering either a supersat 50 system or a supercinema 3D system, what I am wondering is which would be better in my situation given front speaker distance separation and room size, and also would I notice a difference in mid/low mid compared to the zensors given the cabinet size differences?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi and welcome. Some quick answers to your specific questions:

1) If you can only get 6.5' between speakers and you sit 14' away, the 3D Array would give a much bigger soundstage. The 3D Array is not the equivalent of the SuperSat 50's which are more full range and can play louder of course (but the 3D Array will be more than capable for the room size);

2) Both the 3D Array and the SuperSat 50's are "satellite" speakers, bass frequencies will need to be handled by a competent subwoofer, and the subwoofer should be located in the front (and preferably also near the center) of the room. Properly configured and with appropriate bass management, nothing will be missing;

Hi, thank you for your response, I've been trying to gather as much info as possible before I make a decision as I live in a fairly regional area and can't really demo anything.

The only place I can really put my sub in my set up is in the front corner so I'm not sure if that will have a big impact on things, also I was looking at replacing my amp with a Yamaha a710 and using a second pair of super sat 3s for front presence separated at the current distance of 6.5'

So at the moment I am currently thinking of a supercinema 3d array for LCR, 2 supersat 3s for surrounds and 2 supersat 3s for front presence.

I mainly watch blu rays on the system and occasionally watch TV using PL2, would this system be able to go as loud as a supercinema 5?

Thanks again for your help with this.

You bet, hopefully some owners will chime in for you soon too. Can't comment on the Yamaha (no experience with it), perhaps some members here have experience and will comment.

Sub in the front corner is OK - aim it at the center and pull it as many inches out of the corner as you can. SuperSat 3's for other channels will be perfect.

No, not as loud as a SuperCinema 50 System - but we've demo'd 3D Array systems in much bigger rooms and they kicked-butt. :)

Of course, the sub and the amplification will have the most to do with how loud the system will play.

Hi Richards,
Most of what you are asking is out of my area of experience, but as a lover of good home theater (and it sounds like this is your main interest?), I am gonna ask what will sound like a silly question.
Can you move your seating position closer to the front?
The reason is, for music that distance between your speakers from each other and then the distance to you, is not optimal.
AND I don't know how big your TV screen is, but most people sit too far back from the screen--because they always have, that is where most people sit. But in fact, if you move closer, the screen more easily fills your area of vision, gives a more impactful experience, and you will be in a better position for music and the movie sound.
Just a thought.
I have not heard the Yamaha, I imagine it is good, have a listen to Marantz and compare if you get a chance.
In any case, Enjoy!!!!
God Bless,
Wayne
