I want to use the 3D array over a linear fireplace.
Is there a optimal temperature for the sound bar?
How about a temperature at which sound output is affected?

any suggested mounting method to minimize heat transfer? ( i.e. mantel under the bar? the fireplace manual has a suggested distance away for a non-combustible materials)

thanks!

Jackear,

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

I wouldn't man.
I would go with speakers on the side of the fireplace and let them fill in the center channel.
Get as good a side speakers as you can and don't set them on fire, you will be glad you did, IMHO.

Have fun, God Bless, Wayne

There is no issue with temperature and sound, and I guess the maximum would be just below whatever temperature plastic parts start to melt.

I presume you are mounting it there because that's where the TV is going to be located? If so, put the 3D Array Soundbar above the TV, angled down toward ear level. Alternatively, if outside the fireplaces suggested distance, below the TV. In either installation, the TV mount should be able to incorporate the soundbar as well, to position the soundbar directly below or above.

That all said, if it is a real, wood burning fireplace (sorry, I don't know what a "linear fireplace" is), your plan is not a good idea.

Linear fireplace - usually gas...contemporary style and minimal flame, with a linear burner that gives the appearance of a short, wide swath of flame, and a low rectangular viewing area. When mounting speakers/tvs, most manufacturers are recommending 2 1/2 feet as a minimum from the top of the fireplace opening.

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

thanks everyone for the insightful comments.

I went to the authorized dealer and was suggested the same thing -- no issue with the sound bar above the linear (gas) fireplace.
It is more of a decorative fireplace with only 20,000BTU -- not likely to melt the plastic

One thing I did think about was whether the heat will slow conduction of the speaker wires enough to affect the sound.

Just a thought.

thanks all again.
