Loving my new 3D Array -- replaced DefTech towers and center with the sound bar, in a full 7.1 config.

Wondering which of the many Pioneer Elite surround modes actually drive this sound bar at optimal design performance?

Data point: from pure listening comparisons (sample size = 2; wife and I), it seems the "Ext Stereo" preset for "Adv Surround" mode gives pretty sweet sound in all aspects, when listening to TV (broadcast, DirecTV input) movies and music.

Moderator -- I'd really appreciate a GoldenEar engineering response to this question.

Engineer 1 says: Doesn't matter to the speakers, if you want all the speakers to play all the time use whatever mode you like best.
Engineer 2 says: Don't ruin the speakers and the intended sound of the original recording by using those pretend DSP surround mode things.

Audiophile says, if the source is:
- 2ch (stereo): Direct (no surround mode, only L/R and sub should play)
- 2ch (surround): Dolby ProLogic IIx or equivalent (will add matrix signal for center, surrounds and rears)
- 5.1 (surround): Dolby ProLogic IIx or equivalent (will add matrix signal for rears)
- 7.1 (surround, I believe some BluRay movies and games only): Direct (no surround mode)

Moderator really is a comedian...that can be a good thing.
