I have the supersat 50 as my center speaker. I have Triton 2 as my front 2 speakers and I guess the sat 50 as rear. (they are small and were the cheapest at the time) I am looking to upgrade my center speaker first. Then a sub woofer. Then amp. The center speaker distorts when loud bass comes from the center channel. This is not often and not a big deal, I just wanted to get a center that can handle bass. I got my speakers in 2012 and LOVE my Triton 2's. I was thinking the XL? Next, the the sub woofer. I listened to the system for about a year without my sub in the rear of the room. Bass was good but it did not have the same punch my old system had. I turned on my Yamaha woofer from 2000 and bam! I had that base punch next to me,again. Literally, The sub is next to the sweet spot. Where I sit. I want to stay with GolenEar. Is there any one sub that is better for close range? That is what I was missing from the Tritons. Am I doing something wrong or do most of you have an additional sub (or two)
Lastly, I do not have a high end receiver. I had a $1200 Onkyo that was crap and went out. I'm using a $600 Sony STR-DN1040 from a few years back.
Lastly, I was reading some threads and looking at some set ups. I am not rich. Just an ordinary average guy. The kind of guy, the wife yells at when they by expensive stereo stuff.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi Miamifins (I really hope they are good this year!),
Good questions and this is the place to ask them.
I would totally go with the XL or even the XXL center channel speaker, would be a wonderful upgrade. BUT do not expect a great deal of bass from it. When you say your center channel speaker now is distorting it is clear that you are running too much bass to it. Your receiver should be able to set it to SMALL and set a crossover no higher than 80 Hz.
That should stop it from distorting.
You will need the XL or whatever center speaker you upgrade to set as small and a crossover as well. The XXL might go a little lower, like 60, but do not expect much real deep bass from a center channel speaker.
So looking for a sub to go with this is a great idea.
I will let others address the sub.
I hope this helps, have fun with it, happy listening,
God Bless,
Wayne

Hi, Miamifins
One other thing re bass, do you have LFE leads to the T2's? For max bass from the 2's, best setting is fronts as Large, sub on in the receiver (with LFE leads to the 2's plus the sub). Maybe that's how you already have it set up? And as Wayne said, all the other speakers should be set as Small, which will also send bass below the crossovers to the fronts and sub.
Re sticking with GEt and thinking about GEt subs, if you want max punch, probably one of the Supersubs, X or XXL. All the GEt subs are well matched to the whole Gt speaker line.
Happy listening!
Rick

I do not and never had the LFE/ dedicated subwoofer of my amp going to my Tritons 2's. I guess I should have asked this years ago.
I am currently using a Sony SRT-DN1040. It has only two of these outputs. I am running both of these to the old Yamaha sub in he rear corner of the room. It takes both of these cables for the Yamaha to work. I am running my Tritons with red and black (banana clips) using the front left and right outputs on the receiver. I had just assumed that since these speakers plugged in to an outlet that the base was coming from the speaker (self powered) and did not rely on the receiver? These speakers have great base they just do not sound as good without the Yamaha that gives the "punch"
Please forgive me for my ignorance. So should I take the 2 subwoofer outputs on my receiver and run them to each Triton in addition to the left and right (2 wires/ each speaker) and see how that sounds? That would leave me with no outputs for the Yamaha. Have I been listing to these wrong all this time? I saw on other post most folks talking about there high end receivers/ amps maybe that is where my direction should be???
Any additional suggestion would be appreciated.

Also, just checked an the center is set to small and at 80hz. I have the 4 rear speakers at large but again never had a distortion problem with them.
Thanks again.

Hi
First re your two sub pre outs (it's a 7.2 receiver, with 7 amped speaker channels and 2 sub pre-outs, right?) I would try running one sub pre out/LFE to the Yamaha sub, and use a Y spitter to run the 2nd pre-out/LFE to both T2's. You could then separately adjust sub gain for the T2's and Yamaha. Just a note re why running LFE to powered Tritons can help boost bass, it's not that it gives the Triton's bass amp an extra boost, it's that lots of receivers tend to roll off the amount of LFE bass they send to front large speakers to protect either the front speakers, or the receiver's amp from overwork, but don't roll off that same bass if sent via the sub out channel.
Re crossovers, if you're getting some center speaker distortion at the current 80 HZ crossover, I'd try 100 or 120 HZ instead, which is the recommended crossover setting range for Supersats, and definitely set the surrounds as Small. You'll get more bass by sending that portion of the frequency range to the fronts and sub, and take some of the heavy lifting off the surrounds.
Hope this helps.
