file FF5 Issues

Greetings from Malaysia,

A few months ago my FF5 started developing a constant low rumble, much like an aeroplane, with the occasional louder popping noises. This noise will start whenever I play any source, and will continue after I pull the subwoofer cable, and only stop when I pull the power.

Now I've had this sent into A&L audio twice now, and this second time, they've told me they had a new control board sent from GE directly which they've replaced, and am now trying to place the cause on my receiver as the problem continues.

I've got a Yamaha RX-A3050 receiver.

I'm going to see if I can borrow a receiver just to doublecheck, but I'm curious what GE thinks.

Make sure there is no external (interference from wifi router or similar) or powerline cause by moving the sub to another room. It is unlikely the replacement amplifier has the same issue as your first one. If problem persists regardless of location or a/c source, contact your distributor for service.

I’ve turned off all networks at home, and it still continues.


I will try another room, but I don’t have anything with a subwoofer out I can connect it to which I can think of atm.

Very perplexing...

No need to plug in an audio cable if its an interference issue.

If the noise remains you'll need to have that amp module swapped out.

Ahhh, the sound only starts if the sub is connected to a playing source, and then continues when the source ends.

Nevertheless the dealer is sending the board back to GE, the issue apparently wasn't rectified properly the first time the board got sent back.

I am from Malaysia too, I have the similiar problem for my both FF5s, it is really terrible for a subwoofer just above 3 years , both having the same issue almost at the same time... it is obviously a manufacturer defects if the problems is so consistently the same.
