Hello, I am looking to upgrade my mono amps for my Triton 1s. I currently use 2 Emotiva XPA1s. I was looking at the Pass Labs XA 60.5. Before the Emotiva amps I was using a 200wpc amp from Outlaw but it just didn't seem to sound right. Now i would like to buy a nice class A amplifier, I don't know much about the difference in the power outputs. My question is then, would the 60 watts from the Pass Labs be enough for the Triton 1s? Thanks for the help.

Hi Heatmiser44,
I probably can't help you, sounds like you know more about this stuff than I do, and already have an awesome system!!!!!
It might help if you mentioned if music is your main interest here, I am guessing that it is though? And what kind of music and how loudly do you listen, what kind of room is the system in?
Those things can help, but I feel sure that the short answer is YES, those Pass Labs XA 60.5s will be enough to power the Triton Ones to sonic nirvana in most rooms, most music. Pure Class A should sound awesome on the Ones!!!!
Not sure about you being a heat miser though, as these amps will put out some heat.
I am guessing that you are looking for an upgrade, and you already have some (reportedly) pretty good amps. I was just wondering what your front end is like? If you don't mind my asking? Usually larger gains in sound quality are found at the source or Pre-Amp than at the amps, in general.
Happy hunting, hope you find just what you like, and please let us know what you decide, IF you would be so kind.
God Bless,
Wayne

Hi Heatmiser44,

GoldenEar uses Pass Class A amps at shows to really make the speakers shine. And I recall that sometime last year John Atkinson proclaimed the XA60.5 to be the best amps he's yet heard. As far as power, that's an extremely robust 60 watts and unless you listen at ear splitting levels, it will be hard to overdrive the XA60.5 amplifiers, especially driving the Triton Ones.

I was fortunate enough to audition a pair of XA100.5 amps in my room last summer and fell in love with them. Far more than enough power and musically just so "right" as to defy description. But then they had to go back. Unfortunately my champagne taste doesn't match my Two Buck Chuck budget.

While the XA60.5 amps will likely be a great upgrade for you, WayneWilmeth offers great advice to make sure the rest of your system is performing at the level you'd like, too. What are your sources? Do you have a preamp? If so, what are you using? If you have a line on the XA60.5 amps now, I'd snap them up in a heartbeat and then work on the rest of the system if need be.

Dave

The rest of my gear is this:
Integra DHC 80.3 processor
Oppo Bdp95 blu-ray and hi res formats
Toshiba sd-9200 cd/dvd audio
M&K professional sub 5160 ( American made)
Pioneer Elite Kuro Monitor
Cullen Power cables, AQ diamondback balanced cables, Anticables speaker wire
Furman Elite20 PFI, and Cullen custom 20 Amp power box.
All running on 2 dedicated 20 amp circuits.
I am also thinking about Rogue Audio M180s...Thanks for all the input gentleman!

Heatmeister44,

If you have time, I'd be interested in your reasons for upgrading the Emotivas and your feedback on how they paired with your Tritons. I was considering an XPA-2 and would like some subjective feedback. Thank you.

Cheers,

Heatmiser44,

How do your Triton Ones sound on the Emotiva amps? I'm considering An XPA-5 and an XPA-2 and would like a first hand opinion on how the Tritons sound on Emotiva amps. Thanks much.

Cheers,
