Hi, Wayne
If you're looking to route some bass to the FF5, which sure sounds like a good idea, would your pre-amp/amp set-up allow you to set the Triton 2's to SMALL (another heresy), with SUB ON, and a low crossover, in the 40-60 HZ range, to move some of the heavy bass lifting to the FF5? ..Not sure how your set-up works... with LFE connections to your Tritons now, does SUB out go to the FF5 plus the Triton LFE connections, or do you have separate sub out channels for the FF5 and the Tritons. If it's one sub out going to all, then setting the Triton 2's to Small with a low crossover would send low bass to BOTH the Triton 2's and the FF5.

This seems to be a complicated issue...Triton's with powered subs cohabitating with standalone subs, with full LFE going to each. Someone, please set the record straight.

Yes, Rick and Anthem, it is a bit hard to get right.
I expect to write this up on another thread, IF and WHEN I do get it right.
But right now, my processor has 2 RCA and 2 XLR sub outs. So I had a Y connector made with one of the XLR outputs, and took that signal to the Triton 2s in front. The other XLR goes to the FF5, but has to have an adapter as the FF5 only has RCA input. Then the other two RCAs go to the Triton 3s in the side surrounds. I set the T 2s and T 3s to Large and sub on.
I have played with the crossover at 40 Hz and higher. So far I like 40 the best.
My main concern is that LFE means only the low freq stuff that comes out of a Dolby or DTS decoded DVD/Blu-ray.
In other words, that it doesn't have anything to do with "normal" music, even multi-channel music. For sure I don't think it works with Stereo.
But I may be way wrong.
That is why, in my processor, I am choosing LFE + MAIN. and not JUST LFE ONLY.
This could be wrong.
But when I play full orchestra with ORGAN, I want Zarathustra to speak to me through the floor and walls!!!!
When the bass is plucked (upright or elect. bass), I want to feel it.
Open to suggestions.
God Bless,
Wayne

This morning I'm using the movie - bass management speaker configuration in the d2v. T2's, crossovers set to off; center channel set to 100 hz; and T2 subs set to 80 hz. I like what I'm hearing, and I can control the bass of the T2's with my remote...I have the T2's sub volume knob in the "12" position.
Wayne...what crossover are you using on your T2's? Have you ever tried no crossover for the T2's and T3's? For your new center, T7's & sub, have you considered an 80 hz setting?

Keep at it, Wayne!
It seems to me that if multiple speakers (includingTriton towers with powered subs working with standalone subwoofers) can work seamlessly together in 5.1, 7.1, 9.1 surround modes, then it's a fair question to ask whether some of that array of equpment and technology can also be used to enhance listening in stereo mode (I prefer to think of it as stereo, not just 2 channel, fronts only... certainly in the automotive world, stereo music is played over multiple speakers, front and rear, including subwoofers).
I am a big fan of using the center channel to enhance stereo sound, and it makes perfect sense to me to use a separate subwoofer to do the same. Particularly when the speakers are all Goldenear and work so seamlessly together.
I'll be very interested in how your experiment turns out. I too would love to enhance bass in stereo mode, and would be eying a FF5 if you find a way to incorporate it.

anthem wrote: Question... what should the crossover settings be for the T2's and the built-in sub? It doesn't seem like I'm getting full bass extension compared to a "wire only" setup.
Generally, below is the only suggested way to do the setup with powered bass Tritons, running LFE input cables, and no other external subwoofers:
- Set Triton L/R Mains to LARGE (Full Band, No crossover)
- Set Subwoofer to YES
- Subwoofer crossover setting (if there is one in your bass management menu) should be 120 Hz and to Bypass for LFE (again, if available)
- Depending on how your processor does bass management (the Anthem D2v is based on the old Motorola architecture, not the current and ubiquitous TI implementation) adding an additional outboard subwoofer can be treacherous
- The processor's sub (and LFE, if available) volume will both affect the bass output, start at zero and experiment. (Not sure how ARC will deal with this setup, but you can try it)
- This should make no difference when playing the speakers with stereo music, vs. the speaker wire only connection.
