Murphyslaw,

Thanks for sharing that thread! Looks like you're having a lot of fun with the project and getting to know some new enthusiasts along the way. Great group of helpful people from what I read. Great job!

I'm still amazed by how loud you like to listen! Those numbers are pretty intense and the video of the sub excursion was absolutely crazy! I've never seen a sub move like that. Good luck keeping the art on the wall. I'd love to see some more pictures once you get the speakers painted and have the grills in place. I'm glad you're having a good time with the project and were able to achieve such great results.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Thanks T Cobe! Yeah, many of the guys on AVS are really helpful and knowledgeable. The whole DIY community is all about helping each other out and sharing in the building and listening experience. Glad I did it!

For the really loud stuff, I don't listen that loud very often. I just like to test things and know what they are capable of. When people start adding a ton of amplifier power and massive speakers, sometimes it's to generate high SPL, but in my case, I actually want to be able to have a flatter response and dynamic headroom. Knowing that I'm getting 120+ dB in the room peak gives me the ability to hit reference peaks if needed (115), but on average, my movie volume is 85-90. And 90 is pretty loud really. I find myself turning it down on the loud parts and raising it on the quiet parts.

For music, it seems that the sweet spot for volume is in the 1-10 watt range, which gives me about 10x power headroom.
