So I’m in the process of setting up my 7.2.4 Atmos system, my area is roughly 19x20’ with an 8ft ceiling. I’m going with T1.Rs for the fronts, T5s for the rear surrounds, SC Ref for the center but had a couple of questions about the side L/R surrounds and ceiling speakers.

For the side surround, I’m debating between the Invisa MPX and the SS 3. My question is, is there any difference in sound quality between them? Seems like they both share the same drivers/specs so I was wondering if the main difference is only that the MPX is an in wall style installation (which I would actually prefer because of the more integrated look but my left side wall is an exterior wall so don’t wanna mess with that) and the SS 3 has to be surface mounted. I initially was looking at the SPS but realized that may be overkill for side surrounds.

My other question is one that I’m sure has been brought up many times, is the 650 fine to use for the ceiling over the HTR7000 since I have an 8 ft ceiling? I’m not concerned about the price difference if the HTR was just flat out a better fit but was wondering if their dispersion effect would be somewhat negated with my 8ft ceiling.

Thanks!

Hi CarcosaTerp, First, both the SuperSat 3s and Invisa MPXs would work quite well as your side surrounds. Given a choice, however, I'd lean toward using the Invisa MPXs. Their angled driver design provide a great balance of focused sound and spaciousness (that's ideal for side surround speakers).

Next, the Invisa HTR7000 is better sounding speaker when compared to the Invisa 650, so if it's possible to use the HTR7000s, this would be my first choice. Since the Invisa HTR7000s play at a 30 degree angle, when setting up the Invisa HTR7000s as Atmos speakers, you'll want to place them several feet in front of (and several feet behind) the main listening position. If you need to place your Atmos speakers closer to your main listening position, the Invisa 650s would be a better choice. Happy Listening.

Thanks. I’m actually leaning towards using SS 60s now for L/R surround. I’d love to use the MPX or even the SPS but besides my left wall being exterior, my listening position is also almost dead center next to a window. I could move my LP up about a foot or 2 and then I could clear the window but it would make my space too tight. At least with the Sats I can install them with the swivel mounts directly next to the window and angle them slightly towards me. Long term I will look into removing the window and walking it off and install an in wall during that time but that’s down the road.

Interesting about the HTR7000s because I thought I’ve read that they cast more of an ear level sound vs a height sound when they’re installed too close to your LP. So the trick is to move them out further from the LP to cast more of a sound dispersion? I have a couch that sits 4 across and my current plan is to install the 4 speakers roughly 1-2 feet outside of the left and right outer areas of the couch and about 2-3 ft in front and behind the couch. Is that enough distance for the HTR7000 to work?

And I forgot to ask one more thing. Eventually I would like to do an in wall installation with SPS speakers whenever the time comes but is there a an enclosure option to surface mount them? I know there’s a back box for in wall applications but was wondering if there are any surface mount options available or plans to do so.

Thanks again

Hi CarcosaTerp, Placing the Invisa HTR7000s 2-3 feet away from the main listening position is enough distance for these speakers to work very well as your Atmos/height speakers.

There are no plans to make an on-wall enclosure for the Invisa SPSs. If you're handy with woodworking, the recommended enclosure for the Invisa SPS is 1.76 cubic feet. Happy Listening!
