Hi everyone,

I have the opportunity to pick up either a set of Triton Two's at $1200 for the pair or Triton Seven's for $750 for the pair, second hand/used.

I haven't heard either but based on what I read online and auditioning tens of speakers over the years, I'm sure I'll be satisfied with either.

I have been perusing the forums trying to figure out how the reliability of the Two's is and so far I have been impressed with how often the Moderator steps in to help.

Price wise it looks like both of them are about 50% of their MSRP when new but my main concern is reliability. With the built-in amps in the Two's, I'm worried that the speakers are already at least 7 years old and out of warranty so if anything goes wrong, I'll have to pay steep repair prices to get them working again. I have seen forum threads regarding the LED blinking and turning off, no output and amplifiers being replaced.

I currently have a fairly powerful Denon AVR-4311ci putting out 140W/ch and a Niles SW8 8-inch Sub (300W RMS) so I'm thinking that the Seven's might be a better buy from a reliability/longevity perspective.

Hoping to hear your perspectives as well.

Perspective: warranty is non transferable, so it doesn’t matter how old they are - second hand means no warranty. Your price on the sevens looks good, but you’re low on the two’s. $1500 would be the lowest I’ve seen T2’s. You probably want to mention what state you’re in, and given the prices quoted: you’ll have to spring for shipping.

I'm aware the warranty is non-transferable, I was more pointing out the fact that the Seven's are passive and have less to go wrong with them, as pointed out in this thread .

I have never had speakers die on me, component wise drivers and crossovers have a long lifespan if you don't abuse them.

There's no shipping involved in my situation, both are local pickups.

I assume you're saying the Two's are well priced and a better choice? Even with the risk of having the amplifiers be defective down the road?

I have both sevens and two’s, and if I could keep only one pair... T2’s easily. I’m confident in GEt reliability.

Ditto what Timecop said!!!!
I have both the T 2s and the T 7s. No contest really, the T 2s win hands down.
Yes, your logic is correct, there is more to go wrong with the T 2s, BUT also remember there is a whole lot more going right as well.
The T 2s are just a whole lot more speaker.
But either one is a winner.
Let us know which one you choose.
Happy listening,
God Bless,

Anything that plugs in the wall may fail at some point, which includes the electronics driving the passive speakers too. Once out of warranty, we offer an electronics "service exchange" program (you send us the bad ones, we send you replacements). The service exchange price to replace failed electronics in a Triton Two is only $179 USD (per speaker).
