Hi Everyone,
I am working on setting up my new family room with a nice sound system and tv. My awesome wife has agreed to let me mount an 80 inch tv on the main wall but she wont go for tower speakers or in wall speakers. I have some very nice klipsch reference towers now which sound IMO phenomenal so I get to keep them upstairs in a room I am setting up for gaming. So I am left only with on wall speakers and a budget of $3500 for speakers. I plan on running everything through an Integra receiver and is not part of the 3500 budget.

The room is fairly large and rectangular with measurements of 23 x 18 and I am including a very rough attempt of what it looks like of course not to scale it also opens up to second floor so ceiling is 20+ feet.

I was looking right now at the martin logan motion-slm and the goldenear supersat 60.

In regards to Supersat my mind is saying Supersat60 for L/R with a Supersat60c for center and SuperSat3s for surround. I haven't thought about subwoofer yet...

Here are my questions.
1. Does this system make sense with my limitations?
2. Supersat 60s vs 50s?
3. Should I stick with Supersat center? I can place my center on a low cabinet right below the TV
2. Experience of the MartinLogan Motion SLM vs GoldenEar SuperSat
3. Any other brands or speakers I should look at (listen to)?

Hi icharis - Thanks for joining us. In answer to your questions:

1. Makes perfect sense, doesn't leave you much budget for sub(s) though.
2. Given budget, I'd suggest the 50's with two subs.
3. You definitely want the matching center, below the TV is perfect, angled up towards ear level.
4. (2?) I have to let members answer you on this one, you don't want my bias :)
5. (3?) See above.

So I went to a dealer for an audition where we compaed B&W, Martin Logan, and Golden Ear. The demo was pretty smooth and the last speakers we listened to were the Golden Ear. There was zero comparison in quality!!! All we could say was WOW!!..My wife is not really a big audio person and she looked at me and said lets just end this here and not waste time, these last speakers are hands down the best sounding ones.

So decision is done brand wise now we are waiting for a price from the dealer and a couple of options to try to work within our budget/

Good decision Icharis,
You won't regret going with GE.
Just stretch your budget now all you can, because great speakers last for years. Once you got them you will not want to be changing them any time soon. So get all you can.
And ENJOY!!!!!
God Bless,
Wayne

AND Dammit boy, don't fly too close to the sun!!!!!
God bless the child that's got his own.

So closing is coming up soon and if things go well by end of December I will have everything setup!

Just wanted to give everyone an update.

We went back to the AD and spoke to them about the placement of the center channel. My wife would like this piece not on the wall but rather sitting on a very long media console. The AD immediately said well with GoldenEar lets look at your options, SuperSat 60C or you could look at the SuperCenters. We listened to the 60c and the regular SuperSat with some typical listening material for my wife (Friends) and some other TV shows. She was not quite impressed with the sound and said they were kind of just good and then made a comment that the SuperSat was too small for the size of the 80 inch TV that will be sitting above it so the AD hooked up the SuperSat XL and she was sold. Much better balance and projection so looks like we get to make a change!

L/R SuperSat 60
C SuperCenter XL
Rear L/R SuperSat 3s
Sub ForceField 4

We will revisit the Sub once we actually close and bring in the 4 and the 5 and audition them in the house. I have a feeling the 4 will be plenty

Great Icharis,
Thanks for the update and I am SURE (from all I have heard and read) that you will not be disappointed with the SC XL.
Keep us informed as you go, if you would be so kind.
Happy progress,
