Does the center channel amplifier need to match the L&R when using the Array?

If so, can I just use 2 matching 2 channel amps to drive the three channels or would it be better to go with a three channel amp or three mono blocks?

Short answer to first question, no.

Three mono blocks or a three channel amp (probably less to choose from here) are lovely solutions.

Thank you, but I am a little confused. My first question was does the center channel amp need to match. You say no but then go on saying 3 mono blocks or a 3 channel amp are lovely solutions. Please clarify.

i am kind of assuming that was a yes to the need to match, a no to using two 2 channel amps and that a 3 channel or 3 monos are the best solutions

On a side note, Emotiva makes a 3 channel 200 watt (8 ohm) amp that would match well. Perhaps a touch underpowered to fully drive the XL.

The center channel amp does not need to match the L/R Front . The L/R Fronts need the same amp, whether it be a 2-channel or monoblocks. You can use two, 2-channel amps for the L/R Fronts and Center. A BEST solution would be a 3-channel amp such as the Emotiva xpa-3 or better yet three matching monoblocks.

The Emotiva xpa-3 will give you all the power you'll probably ever need...

Three Emotiva xpa-100's (250 watts/$399.00) across the front...sweet.
Three Emotiva xpa-1L's (250 watts/$599.00) across the front...super sweet. Flip the switch into Class A mode and the xpa-1L transforms into a pure Class A high bias 35 watt sweetheart.
