Hi Rich Sound,

Good advice from Rick. I didn't notice a sub(s) mentioned, but it should be part of your first purchase.

If I understand your drawing, the green are in-wall/ear-level Surrounds (MPX) and the blue is the in-ceiling Rears (presumably HTR 7000). To achieve the desired effect and distinction from the Surrounds, these would have to be significantly further back. If that is an issue, we would recommend skipping the rears and sticking with a 5.1.4 setup instead.

Thanks Moderator for taking time to reply.

My drawing was sorta cut off some but you got the just of it. My question was either the green (in wall) or blue (in ceiling) location for rear surround MPX? I was told by my local dealer that the MPX would work in either location so I wanted to get greater clarification as I pull wires. IF the 7000 were to be used how much further back should they need to be?

Yes subs are part of my plan I just didn't show them on the drawing. I plan for one up front and one in the rear eventually.

If I skip the rears, of what would the 5.1.4 consist? LCR, sides, subs and 4 heights?

Thanks.

In-ceiling surrounds or rears in an Atmos system would have to be HTR 7000s, and they would need to be located about 12'-14' behind the primary listening area. Side wall MPX for surrounds is correct.

In a 5.1.4 system you have L/C/R/L-Surround/R-Surround/Sub/LF-Height/RF-Height/LR-Height/RR-Height. The "7" adds the L-Rear and R-Rear.
