@Moderator - sub will be corner placement most likely...look like SCX then.
What would you put the crossover on the sub if the surrounds are set to 100hz? 100hz for the sub too or maybe 120hz?

I guess the main question considering the Aons vs the T7s is is there really any difference if the low-end is taken care of? I know the tweeter is the same, but what about the mids - T7s have two smaller drivers as apposed to the Aon's larger, single driver. Also, what about the soundstage; is it similar between the two, or will the T7 take the lead here?

Most modern receivers have independent crossovers for all channels that sum to the sub. Set the Center to 80Hz, Surrounds to 100/120Hz, Sub to 120 Hz. Sub will get LFE bass up to 120Hz, Center channel bass up to 80Hz and Surrounds bass up to 100Hz.

Most would say the dual D'Apolito mid/bass driver Triton Sevens are "better" than the Aons, but fans of small standmount speakers will disagree, preferring the small cabinet "disappearing act" of an Aon 2.

@Waynewilmeth - you're really helping push me to T7s and Aon2s lol.

Well, I appreciate the help. Hopefully my local dealer will have all the speakers I want to try so I can listen to all the different combos to make my decision.

One thing I can do is go Aon2s all around and later on pic up a pair of Triton towers when I move to a bigger room for a 7.1 setup :)

Yes, Freeman,
That is a good point.
The Aons will sound super, they are really incredible speakers for their cost and size. And, IF you add Triton towers front left and right later, 7.1 is really great!
You are on the right track.
Good one, all the best, Blessings,
Wayne

Freeman: I have the Aon 3s in a traditional two channel system and one of the many reasons I love them is that they excel with many different kinds of music. I listen to jazz, rock, vocals, electronic (house, trance, dance). These speakers sound great with everything--one of the reasons I chose them. Aon 2s are good too; Aon3s have better bottom-end response.

Hey Freeman,

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

I know Wayne is steering you towards the T7s as well he should, but I wanted to make another point for you. You know, just to make things that much more difficult.

One thing I would like to throw out there is that you mentioned a good 30% of your time will be spent gaming. If that's true then I'd highly recommend you invest in quality surround speakers. And by that I mean getting at least the AONs.

In most movies the important information (dialogue) and complex sound (music+effects+dialogue) will come from your front soundstage and the rear channels are mostly for effects. I think that's why in most movie focused set-ups people are satisfied with behemoths up front (Triton 2s) with the itty bitty (SS3s) in the rear; each speaker does it's job properly.

In games, that's not the case (assuming you are talking about shooters and the like). With those games, dialogue and other important full-range sounds may come from any of the 5+ channels. As a result I think it's very important in a gaming set-up to have a rear speaker that can play lower (full range) especially if your monstrous (read: jealous) SVS sub will be closer to the front of the room. With so much full-range audio coming through the rear channels it'll sound weird blending across your entire room front to back.

So basically, whatever you choose, I think you should consider the option that would get you at least the AON2s for rear speakers.

Enjoy! You'll love 'em whichever way you go.
