I made a post before, but did not see it afterwards. Trying again. Hopefully not a double post.

I recently set up a SuperCinema, SuperSat3 and Forcefield. After the setup, I seemed to notice an echo coming from the sub. It was most pronounced during conversation, especially when the voice was a bit deeper e.g. Ben Affleck in Argo.
I had set the crossover at 120Hz. Tried changing that, but it had little effect.
Finally I discovered that the problem disappeared when I changed the lipsync from 70ms to 0ms. By experimenting a bit more, I discovered that the lipsync on my receiver changed the time delay for the SuperCinema, but not the Forcefield. Now the sound is OK, but the picture and audio are not synced.

Question: should the lipsync give the same time delay for the signal to the SuperCinema and the Forcefield? Or is a subwoofer different as you are not supposed to hear the direction of the sound from a subwoofer. I am not a specialist, but direction and timing are different. I thought the lipsync from the receiver should give the same time delay to the LCR speakers on the SuperCinema and the subwoofer.

Something is wrong somewhere if you need 70ms of audio delay, that's basically unheard of for modern equipment. You've got an electronics problem there, unrelated to the speakers. Just because it is the only user adjustable delay-producing setting, have you checked the distance settings in your speaker setup menu?

Regarding the function of lip sync audio delay, yes, it should delay the same for all channels.

Have some problem replying. Hopefully not a double post.

I read on avsforum that 70ms is quite standard as delay for a video processor in a flat panel. Also, on my flat panel (Samsung 55ES8000), it looks right to bring video in line with audio.
Also, my receiver has a lipsync range from 0ms to 500ms. So 70ms is not extreme in that range.
Is there a misunderstanding? Are we talking about the same kind of delay?

No double post - not sure what issues you're having? Let us know and I will forward to our IT person.

Afraid I am going to have to demure to other members and/or your dealer. I have setup 1000's of systems and never had to use lip sync delay other than for the occasional odd cable box issue. I have three systems in my home and none require lip sync. But, even if I do employ lip sync (I tried it just to see), it affects all channels equally (when working properly). Perhaps some help from your local dealer and/or the electronics manufacturer can better troubleshoot your situation.

hello
Thanks for the reply. Main thing to know is that lipsync delay should be equal for all channels. At the moment, it is not like that in my receiver. I will contact the dealer and manufacturer of the receiver.

About the necessity for lipsync, I will try to test in detail. But some thoughts:
- If you use a 24p source, then there is 40ms between frames. If the flat panel or video processor does some interpolation, then the processor has to wait to get frame 2 before it can interpolate the frames between 1 and 2. So a delay is necessary.
- If lipsync is not needed, why do most receivers have it, in my case with settings up to 500ms?

About the posting problem, maybe I made a mistake with the captcha code, or forgot to use it.

hello
I just read this report about a Samsung flat panel.
www.avforums.com/reviews/Samsung-UE-F800...91/Test_Results.html

Input lag in standard mode 112ms. So I guess it is right to pay attention to lipsync.
