Although this topic has already been addressed, I would like further input from members who have had both speakers. I own and love the Triton 1 but am looking for an excuse to upgrade to the 1R.
Any comments on the characteristics of two speakers would be appreciated.

I had the original Triton 1s, then upgraded to the 1Rs about 2 years ago.

In a nutshell....the 1Rs sound a bit "brighter", with more upper-midrange. I don't know which speaker is really more accurate, the original 1 or the 1R, but they both sound quite good. And the overall sound is highly influenced by the listening environment: furniture, floors, ceiling, room size, etc. The other difference is that the 1Rs have more dynamic range. They can play louder, yet still stay very clean and undistorted. On the Rs, I set the woofer level just slightly above mid-point, with the knob almost to the "1 o'clock" position.

The audible detail of the Rs is amazing. You'll hear stuff you never heard before! FYI, I listen to mostly classical music on SACDs using McIntosh gear. (On my MA8900 amp, I set the 2kHz EQ knob to about 10 o'clock, to provide a slight upper mid-range dip of about 4db or so. I suspect my room is slightly "peaky" in that part of the audio spectrum.)

I’m sticking with the Ones for now. I too listen mostly classical with a large collection of SACDs.
The Ones sound so good, I’m not looking to trade up yet.

Your musical interests are the same as mine....all classical on SACDs. I think the original Ones might actually be more accurate, though the added upper mid and treble I hear on the Rs could be from my acoustics. The added dynamic range of the Rs is great if you like it loud...but at more moderate levels, the Ones sound incredible. Enjoy!

The One’s are pretty loud as it is.
If you play SACDs you might want to try something called the GeerFab digital extractor. It works with an Oppo player (if you have one) as a transport. Incredible improvement in SACD sound.

You can use your current SACD player instead of the Oppo if it has an HDMI connection.
