I have the XL, and it's very good. Wondering if in regards to clarity (especially vocal clarity) would the Reference be a noticeable improvement?

Hi cgott42, First, the SuperCenter XL is a great sounding center speaker. Next, since the SuperCenter Reference uses the reference quality folded ribbon tweeter - and 4 x bass/midrange drivers (instead of 2 bass/midrange drivers - used in the SuperCenter XL), you'll hear more detail and clarity throughout the midrange and high frequencies. It's a judgement call as to whether the improvement in performance is worth the additional cost. If it were my system, I'd go with the SuperCenter Reference. Happy Listening!
