Hello,

I recently received a pair of Aon 2's and was wondering what amplifier would work well with them? Should it have more than 50 watts per channel at 4 ohms?

I'm trying not to spend more than about $800, and am currently looking at the NAD D 3020, NAD C 338, and Marantz PM 6005 or 6006....any suggestions?

Thank you very much,

Matt

Hey Matt,
Congrats on getting the Aon 2s, they are really a special little speaker.
Is this for a desktop setup, may I ask?
The NAD D 3020 includes a DAC with amp, but only 30 wpc yet it is rated really highly. The NAD C 338 has 80 wpc which should be even better, not rated so well though, it looks more like what you might be looking for though. (An integrated amp?) That is what the Marantz seems to be, but with 120 wpc. It too is very highly recommended.
I think it will depend on how you will use the system and what will be connected to it?
NAD or Marantz, that is a toss up to me, both good brands sure to make the Aons sing!
Hope this helps, happy listening,
God Bless,
Wayne

I tried out the nad d 3020 on some triton 7's and B&W c5's. The 30wpc @ 8ohms sounded really thin. I pulled out an old A/V reciever that fed 100wpc to the speakers, and both sets woke right up. I'd look for a good return policy if you go with the NAD, as the reviews oversell it IMHO.
Triton Two front L/R
SuperSat 50c center
Triton Seven surround L/R
SuperSat 50 surround rear L/R
AVR Arcam AVR-21
Amp Marantz mm7025
Velodyne optimum 10” sealed, back left corner
SuperSub X front-right corner

Hello Wayne, thanks for the input, I'll most likely look into the integrated Marantz, since it would allow me to connect my laptop and record player.

Thanks for your input, I'll make sure to check out the return policies, and you're right about the 30 WPC.
