Dear all

What is the final verdict on using - ot not using the LFE INPUT on your tritons in a normal stereo set up ?

I apologise in advance if this is an overexposed topic, but I am not finding the answer when trawling the forum

I have a very simple set up
Triton.one.r
NAD C658 PREAMP/DAC with bluesound and 2 suboutputs
NAD C298 POWERAMP

Listening to (rock) music
And using them for TV/Movies

Before I invest in and hook up (audioquest  ) subcables.... the level42 question is

Does it make sense to run the LFE cables between preamp and triton

Bracing myself for impact....

Hi Abbbboh, In a home theater system, there are advantages to connecting a separate LFE cable to the Triton Triton towers. In this instance, the LFE cable (or LFE channel) l contains different information than the left and right speaker wire connections - and the towers are setup to combine or sum together any bass they receive from the regular speaker wire connections with any bass they receive from their LFE inputs.

However, when used in a two-channel stereo system, the subwoofer outputs on your NAD pre-amp/DAC are really the same bass signals that are contained in the regular speaker wire connections. If you were to connect the LFE outputs from your NAD pre-amp/DAC to the towers, the towers would be receiving the same bass signal through two separate connections.

In your application, I would recommend connecting the towers with speaker wires only. Happy Listening!

Abbbboh, in furtherance of the Moderator's recommendation and if you're not using the LFE input on the Triton tower speakers, there are potential benefits to be realized by using a shorting plug on that input.

Best.

Hi dimitrios fakitsas, If your amplifier has a subwoofer output, you could connect a cable from your amplifier's subwoofer output to the tower's LFE input. This cable can be a "subwoofer cable" or a single standard RCA patch cord. If your amplifier does not have a subwoofer output, I wouldn't worry about. Your towers would still properly play bass when they're connected with speaker wires only. Happy Listening!
